The Chronicles of Riddick: Underverse

I have been waiting for a while on news about Riddick 2/3 now, and i loved both PB and COR, but i think this franchise is dead and buried in all honesty. Shame, i would have loved to see were it went.

I think if anything the Riddick series has been pretty good overall. It's a bit underrated but it's done its share of rounds. Is it worthy of a few more sequels? Yes, without question. But can they done is what has me wondering.

I hope they make Riddick 3. I really liked the first two and the animated movie. David Twohy (the director/writer) hasn't done either anything after TCoR.

Last time I remember Riddick 3 mentioned in the public was in one of those King Kong videodiaries, the April's fool one. In that video one of the Universal execs says something like "We've put some money aside for Riddick sequel, but we'll use them instead to finance Kong King 2." So at least thery were planning the sequel in 2005.

Yeah, that was a joke. They were making fun.

I liked Riddick, but the Unrated Director's Cut sucked. Giving Riddick superpowers and slapping in all those dead-end plot points did not please me.

Pitch Black was amazing though.

You know, even Dark Fury was pretty good...

This is all I could find on the sequels:

Sequels

In a March 8, 2006 article on Comingsoon.net, it was reported that Vin Diesel claimed that a sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick was in the works. According to him, he had already written a storyline that covered a trilogy which began with the Chronicles of Riddick. Another article on Comingsoon.net written on March 11, 2005 reports that Vin Diesel states that Chronicles 2 was to deal with The Underverse, while Chronicles 3 was to conclude the series with a return to Furya.

Yeah, I remember Alexa Davalos said when CoR came out that her contract included her attachment to a sequel. So I assume that the trip to the Underverse would've been because he was trying to get Jack/Kyra back.

Now, that would have been great to see! Especially since the universe was more or less created with Riddick in mind.

They did when they came out back during the release of the movies. Alan Dean Foster seemed right at home writing the adaptation of CHRONICLES.

I don't see why not. Novel or comic sequels might be our best bet at this point.

I agree there as well. Even if Vin isn't involved in their creation. The series maybe his baby, but they've gone off on their own accord at this point. Besides he vanished off the radar.

I doubt he's working on the sequel.

He's been working on Babylon A.D. for next year and getting his Hannibal movie in gear.

I think the series is more David Twohy's baby than anybody's. He's the writer/director behind it all, after all. But yeah, whatever, we can live without.

Or maybe they should consider continuing the franchise in animation, in the Dark Fury style? Call Peter Chung.

Thanks for that. I completely forgot about those since I seen much mention on Joblo.com.

One of the best anime's without question. I agree on that one as well.

Yeah i think that is were the sequel was heading, with Furya being heavily involved in the 3rd movie.

Plus i found the DC to be the better version of the movie.

David Twohy said:
Okay, okay, now on to the really important stuff like "What the **** is happening with RIDDICK? Yes, I got your emails demanding another movie; yes I keep bumping into guys at the airport and at conventions and I take your pleas to heart. All I can say now is "We're talking about it." The DVD numbers were really good - we know that, and some potential financiers know that. But if another movie surfaces, then it probably won't be a Universal movie and probably will be an independent movie... But that's okay... Maybe it's time to go back to our roots - as we go on to the UnderVerse.
Woohoo! \o/

Dang, it's been a long time, but that's good news if true. Pitch Black was better than Chronicles of Riddick, and that was an indie movie. Perhaps by being forced to return to their indie film roots with Underverse, they'll be able to re-capture some of what made Pitch Black so good in the first place. If they've got a big enough budget to make the movie they want to make, but not so much that they have to find things to spend it on, then it could be really good.

I liked both PB and COR, I think the Riddick character is great, and I was hoping that we would get another film, it didn't do very well at the BO but the DC of Riddick did very well so Universal made lot's of money on it and hopefully we will get a new film, anything is better than "The Pacifer" :woot:

I would love to see this happen. I loved the first two films and would be more than pleased to see a third. :)

I really hope we get another Riddick movie, i love both of the first 2 and they cant just leave with Riddick being in command of the Necromonger army, WE NEED MORE.

Did anyone else feel that they were setting up a big showdown between Riddick and Vaako at the end of the trilogy also?

I'd watch it... I still somehow haven't seen Pitch Black to the end yet, but Chronicles was just outright fun and Vin created one of the most badass characters I've ever seen. And it had a sad ending, so, that really solidified it, for me, as a great movie, even if it didn't explore any existential themes...

It's actually one of the very few movies I can watch over and over...

He, I've seen Riddick only once, but Pitch Black god knows how many times. Once my brother started watching it and I was like "Oh, Pitch Black. I'll watch little bit of it." and I ended up watching the whole goddamn movie. :woot:

Still haven't seen DC of CoR. Partly because I wan't the 2-Disc UK digipak version and it's OOP. :csad:
