When the heck is this project going to get moving? I know that Chronicles of Riddick wasn't the booming financial success Universal was hoping for, but it was still a really cool movie, and I know the Director's Cut DVD was a huge hit (the movie probably would have been a bigger hit in theaters if that was the version they released). I loved Pitch Black too, and I really want to see where the story was going to go for Riddick 3 (which in all likeliness would have been called "Underverse"). So, what are your hopes/expectations for Riddick 3? Discuss!

Personally, I hope that they fit a wicked cool Colosseum scene in there somehow. I can think of few images that would be cooler than seeing Riddick single handedly take down a bunch of tough freaks and monsters in an arena amidst a crowd of jeering Necromongers. :word:

There was a directors cut for Riddick?

While it was pretty much a Sci-Fi copy of Conan, I still fairly dug it.

Problem lies in that whilst it cost "only" 105 million (that was the production budget, so i assume its not including marketing), it only made 115 million: so effectively lost a bloody fortune.

I have seen interviews with Vin Diesel where he has spoken about getting the last two parts made as animated movies if he has to, but i think that riddick is dead n buried. Unless diesel manages to make a 1 billion blockbuster and uses that clout to get the final two made

What happened to Vin diseal anyway. I haven't seen the guy in any films for a couple of years.

The last thing I remember him being in was "Find Me Guilty"... last year.

I hope they make Riddick 3. I really liked the first two and the animated movie. David Twohy (the director/writer) hasn't done either anything after TCoR.

Last time I remember Riddick 3 mentioned in the public was in one of those King Kong videodiaries, the April's fool one. In that video one of the Universal execs says something like "We've put some money aside for Riddick sequel, but we'll use them instead to finance Kong King 2." So at least thery were planning the sequel in 2005.

wat was so good about the riddick movies?...

it was 'meh' at best.... :|

liked it, but mostly cuz i like Vin (ever since Iron Giant)
the film was a bit of a mess.
the Aeon flux team did have a go at the animated version and that was tight!

If they did Riddick 3 with a lower budget and an R rating I think it would still be a worthy follow up, and would probably be more profitable than COR was. In any case, David Twohy said that they'd be saving money with a sequel since a lot of the costumes and props would be carried over from COR (namely the Necromonger stuff, which was much of what made COR so expensive).

Anyway, the DVD for COR sold a buttload of copies, so even though the movie was a failure at the BO, Uni still managed to roll in some green off of the DVD rentals and sales. Hopefully if the new game sells well, and Vin Diesel's Hannibal movie is a success, Universal will consider the possibility of doing a third Riddick film (probably with a budget closer to 80 million this time). Whether or not it gets made will probably depend very largely one how expensive the movie would be.

Pitch Black was great, Riddick was ummm ok but they pimped it out to much and it lost its heart and edge.

So i think they should try and go closer to what pitchblack was on the next one

Confession:
I loved The Chronicles of Riddick...and think that I, more than anyone am hoping that this movie gets made...Unfortunately...I don't think it will ever happen.

Will agree with last poster. Pitch Black was pretty good, dont think it had a huge budget. Chronicles was just a 'mess' as someone said. It really didn't make any sence, though it was somewhat entertaining. If they do make a 3rd they need to get back to a grittier type of movie, and goback to making riddick a 'badguy'. They need to make it like a Blade runner type movie..

and I think the real problem is that, after Pitch Black, they really didn't follow any of the scientific logic they set up...Pitch Black, didn't feel so far into the future...a bounty hunter wearing a baseball cap/a swat style bounty hunter uniform...and a pump action shot gun. People swigged wine and JD, one guy makes a reference to Paris on Earth...Riddick says he was found in abandoned in the back of a liquor store trash bin, and that he traded Kools (and earthbrand name ciggarrette) in exchange for his eyes. So, how far exactly into the future was it? Its like Chronicles was trying to be told in a galaxy far far away type of story...with no knowledge of a place like Earth...this is where they lost some people who liked Pitch Black for its familiar simplicity.

I really liked Pitch Black, and Riddick was ok as well.
But Pitch Black was better, but I did like this one to, but yeah what happened to making a thrid one?

Riddick actually became one of my all time favorite sci-fi films. :) (it could be because of the fact it felt almost like live-action anime due to the appearance of things..like the armor the bad guys wore, et.c.)

I just loved the film over-all.

Yeah. And Riddick got made because Pitch Black did so well on VHS/DVD. It wasn't a success in theaters.

I actually liked/enjoyed The Chronicles of Riddick. It's in my DVD collection. I gave it 3/4 stars.
I really like the character of Riddick. He's not "riddickulous".

He's not "riddickulous".

AH! It's a pun!

Anyway, the one route I think they definitely should NOT go with for Riddick 3 is making it as a DTV or Sci-Fi channel movie. I know that Vin Diesel absolutely loves playing Riddick, but I'm sure his agent would advise him quite strongly against appearing in cable TV or DTV movies. The quality would be extremely poor (looks to Starship Troopers 2), and it would most likely be a very disappointing film for fans of the first two.

Hopefully, when this movie gets made, they'll do it the way it needs to be done, as a theatrical production with a decent but not reckless sized budget.

I think that was intended to be a joke.

What do you mean? what about Starship Troopers 2? Don't women always walk around topless in bunk rooms during a mission? I just assumed it was natural. (well, except for the breasts)
