This thread discusses the possibility of The Riddler making the viral marketing in Nolan's third Batman movie so much sweeter and more complex (and more fun!), given the nature of the character. It also discusses whether this would clarify or blur the distinction between the Joker and the Riddler, which many people have complained about.

(I, for one, think that the Riddler and the Joker are very different characters, just with similarly high levels of menace and psychosis. I think a reason many people can't distinguish the two is that previous Riddler incarnations have been quite Joker-like. I am personally in favor of having The Riddler in BB3--I think Nolan could envision a really great Riddler incarnation.)

There were riddles in TDK's viral marketing, but having the Riddler behind the next movie's marketing would up the ante. TDK's viral marketing focused more on making us clowns, pulling pranks and jokes. BB3's viral marketing could focus more on making us detectives, solving riddles and enigmas. With this distinction, there would be a different flavor and mindset surrounding BB3, putting the Riddler in a different light than the Joker.

What do you all think? Would Riddler viral marketing be too similar to the TDK viral marketing, or would it help to distinguish the two?

riddler viral marketing would be like 10x harder than the jokers

That would be kickass....
I would prefer a more intelligence/riddle based campaign

www.RiddleMeThis.com anyone?

EDIT:
HOLY ****! THAT LINK LEADS TO AN ACTUAL SITE!!!
THE TAS WEBSITE TO BE SPECIFIC!
IT'S ALREADY REGISTERED!

Kickass!

A riddler viral campaign would be interesting but I think it would be similar to the Joker's. However, I still think they could make it into something different than the Joker's. No matter who the villain is, there needs to be a viral campaign so that we can get a glimpse of how Gotham's citizens begin viewing batman after the ending events of The Dark Knight.

Mr. Reese. Mysteries.

Anyone?

His full name might be Reese Edward Enigma? He has red hair, works for Wayne, [BLACKOUT]Knows who Batman is but can't tell anyone out of fear and clearly wanted money so that is a motive to screw with Batman/Bruce.[/BLACKOUT]

I think he is the Riddler and that he Two-Face and Scarecrow are already to much for the next film.

Good thing [blackout]Two face died and wont be in the next film then[/blackout] :cwink:

Riddler viral marketing would be frikkin AWESOME! What kind of games would we see?

I just hope WB doesn't force Nolan to use the Riddler just because they like the idea of using viral marketing again

I think as long as they get an actor that's going to play the Riddler like The Riddler and not like the Joker (Read: As long as they stay far away from Jim Carey) it wouldn't be bad. Hopefully the puzzles would be harder and I can definately see how it could play out. The Riddler was known in the comics for sometimes leaving clues out in the open for everyone to see but only those with a sharp mind could identify them as clues.

But in all reality unless Nolan plans on adding a Robin (God help us...) or using more than one villian. I don't think he will ever use the Riddler. He simply isn't a strong enough character to rely on solely and I can't think of any bat-baddie he would forseeably team up with.

I would like that. But as the second movie was all about escalation and given the current state of things, I think the next villian would have to be more malicious. I'm thinking Hush.

I just don't think Hush is a big enough character to put on the big screen.

The Riddler's viral marketing should begin by him placing adverts in real world newspapers.

I don't like Viral Marketing because when the movie is released it seems pretty useless
