Former world snooker champion Terry Griffiths dies aged 77

Former world snooker champion Terry Griffiths has died aged 77, after a long battle with dementia, his family has confirmed.

The Welshman became the first qualifier to win the world championship, beating Dennis Taylor 24-16 in the 1979 final.

Griffiths also won the Masters in 1980 and the UK Championship in 1982 to complete snooker's 'Triple Crown'.

I'm pretty sure they did, at least to a point. He paid off her hospital and rehab bills over the years, I think. I doubt they were ever close, but I don't think he hated his mom or anything like that.

Awwww.....I liked Earl Holliman, he was in a lot of stuff, many of them classics. He starred in the pilot episode of the original TWILIGHT ZONE, co-starred in the best Burt Reynolds movie SHARKY'S MACHINE, appeared in the classic sci Fi movie FORBIDDEN PLANET, and so many other movies and TV shows. But props to him for making it to 96.

Me too. I generally liked his characters. Hey....96....man, if I make it that long, I wanna be without pain and able to get around somewhat.

RIP Earl Holliman. Liked him in Police Woman. Then caught him in an old western or two.

The Sons of Katie Elder? If you've got to play third or fourth fiddle, you might as well do it behind John Wayne and Dean Martin. IIRC, the amazing George Kennedy was in that one too.

I'm a big A's fan and back in the day, I used to take a day off work on Wednesdays when they had their day games at home. We'd make fried chicken, potato salad, spike our lemonade with vodka, and show up early to watch McGwire and Canseco take batting practice. Really great team and it's tough to watch them now. Dave Steward, Bob Welch, Eckersley, Dave Henderson, Harold Baines, the juice brothers (Jose and Mark).....and Rickey.

I was at the game when he broke Lou Brock's stolen base record and was sitting directly in line of 3rd base when he stole 3rd for the record. He immediately ripped the base out of the ground, they stopped the game, and Rickey, modestly, pronounced himself the greatest base stealer of all time.

While I was at the game, I got a silver coin commemorating the event and a piece of parchment they were handing out.

Rickey was a one of a kind. Thanks for the memories.
