Now a lot of folks probably don't know who Earle H. Hagen was but if you have ever heard perhaps one of the most recognized tune in TV history it was Hagen who was whistling it..
Yep Earle H. Hagen was the guy who was the one whistling "The Andy Griffith Show" Theme song.
But Hagen was more than just a whistler. He was a true Musician and a composer for a number of TV Themes.
Hagen not only whistled the Theme Song for Andy Griffith, but he also composed themes for other shows including: The Danny Thomas Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Spy, That Girl, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C, and The Mod Squad.
But Hagen Also did other stuff besides TV Themes. He helped co-write, the jazz classic Harlem Nocturne. During his long musical career, Hagen performed with the top bands of the swing era, composed for movies and television and wrote one of the first textbooks on movie composing.
He even was nominated for an Academy Award Oscar, along with Lionel Newman for for best music scoring for the 1960 Marilyn Monroe movie Lets Make Love.
In short, Hagen had a wide veratlle Career but in the end, Hagen would be all but forgotten if it wasn't for all those shows he composed for.
So in closing if you don't know who Earle Hagen is? He's the cornerstone for perhaps most 1960's TV Shows. Shows that definitely had musical themes that were memorable.
