Wow this movie was amazing! I had no idea what to expect going in and was thoroughly floored - Caesar and his arc was by far the greatest thing about the movie. The scenes where he was growing up in Will's house were some of the best in the movie. I liked some of the unexpected humor too like when Caesar swung across the ceiling to get at some food.

I agree that James Franco and Freida Pinto didn't really do much, they were just supporting vehicles for Caesar's arc. As far as the human characters, I loved to hate both the next-door neighbor and "Malfoy". I was expecting Brian Cox to be in the movie more too, but he didn't do much either.

The action overall was amazing stuff - the apes in the city and on the bridge delivered pure badassness. The gorilla btw was my 2nd favorite character after Caesar - I wanted to see it rampaging and causing destruction and wasn't disappointed. ;) And the way the apes crossed the bridge was awesome too - those were definitely some of the coolest shots I've ever seen in a movie that featured the Golden Gate Bridge.

Very well-made and very entertaining movie. Loved Caesar's "NO" scene in particular, that was a totally awesome holy-crap moment. Coming after a ton of comic book-based movies this year (my favorite CBM this year is definitely X:FC) it actually felt refreshing to get a good ol' sci-fi movie. Looking forward to a sequel.

The original movies were a few years before my time, but I remember they were on TV all the time when I was a kid.

I remember seeing Spaceballs in the theater, and how the audience was roaring laughing at the beach scene. That was how I found out how the original Planet of the Apes movie ended. :funny:

That's funny . I found out the same way , lol.

Guys, I'm sorry to ask this here, but I didn't know where else. Can someone tell me what the alternate endings were for Burton's film?

Hm, I don't think Burton's film had any alternate endings. Never heard about any if it did

There were no alternate endings as far as I know.

There were rumors that had to do with Mount Rushmore while it was going through re-writes.

Too late for my full review but I'll leave a few thoughts.

I really enjoyed this movie, most of the effects were very solid, especially the orangutan. It was amazing! Movie definitely could have used some more Brian Cox. Frida Pinto did nothing.

Lastly, while a few are appreciated, this movie has WAY to many throwbacks to the old film, the "madhouse" line in particular was ill advised.

did you guys stay to see the little after credit scene?

Yeah that mid credits scene was pretty awesome especially the criss crossing pattern going on during the credits after it. That was a really cool and pretty informative visual.

The funny thing about the chimp rangler was he thought his respirator would protect him. He had a full beard. You need to be clean shaven around the sealing area of your mask.

did you guys stay to see the little after credit scene?

Yeah, i was half way up the isle heading toward the door, had to turn around and watch it watch it standing up.

I wanted to see more after the movie was done lol. I wanted to see the remake sequel with the astronauts returning to earth.

I can picture the Sequel doing something like with the virus doing its thing there really. Caesar would willingly help Will do anything possible to try & cure the virus & at the same time the other Apes gets restless & Caesar tells them not to do anything drastic because if nothing can be done then the virus does its job for them & the Apes are the ones left standing. Obviously for some action a group of Apes does the rebellion thing against Caesar but in the end gets put in their place

One of the most haunting and memorable scenes in the history of movies is in 1968's
Planet of the Apes, when Taylor(Charlton Heston) happens upon a broken and damaged half of the Statue of Liberty on a beach. He then realizes this world controlled by apes is actually Earth.
Five more Apes films followed including 2001's re-imagined Planet of the Apes. There was also a short lived live action and animated T.V series.
But with Rise of the Planet of the Apes the popular storyline regains its footing and then some.
Will Rodman (James Franco) is a San Francisco scientist who has been trying to develop a cure for Alzheimer's disease ,he uses the"virus" he has developed on Apes, makes great strides and his boss Steven Jacobs (David Oyelowo) sees dollar signs.
An accident occurs the program is shut down but Will takes an infant ape home, and
names him Caesar (Andy Serkis).Through the virus, given to his mother, the gene is passed on to Ceasar his I.Q grows ,and as he grows older he realizes more about the world and himself. But where will his self awareness lead him to?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes,is an impressive, moving, charming, exhilarating film.
I felt like a kid again.Films like this are the reason i still go to the theatre.
The flaws are minor a plothole here and there and the beautiful and talented
Freida Pinto is underused,Tom Felton as Dodge Landon basically portrays an American version of Draco from The Harry Potter films
Franco gives a compassionate performance as the loving son to his father Charles(John Lithgow also great!!) and caring and protective to Caesar.

If WETA DIGITAL and Andy Serkis dont receive Oscars for their hard and amazing, dazzling work, they should protest outside of the Oscars, for the next thousand years!!!Serkis portrays Caesar's humanity so seamlessly, the same way the late great
Roddy McDowall brought humanity to the characters Cornelius/Caesar in the early Ape films.
There are nods to previous films and hints of the future of the Apes storyline, which i hope will be Directed by Rupert Wyatt again, written by Rick Jaffa,Amanda Silver and
Weta Digital and Andy Serkis must return!! I hope all comes to pass and that there is no monkeying around!!

Frieda Pinto was there to look hot, and I must say, mission accomplished.

I don't normally care about **** like this or even notice it on chicks, but she has flawless skin. That first closeup of her in the vet's office.....:o

Guys, I'm sorry to ask this here, but I didn't know where else. Can someone tell me what the alternate endings were for Burton's film?

Although Burton never filmed any alternative endings, the initial script had Wahlberg's character landing at Yankee Stadium, witnessing apes playing baseball.

This is what still makes me wonder. Was the script written by the only? I remember Scott Frank had a great part in the earlier production of the film and I can see them borrowing some ideas from his writing.

I mean Jaffa/Silver never really demonstrated their brilliance in writing movies and their last film was released over 10 years ago. This makes me wonder whether they actually played a great role in the story itself.

Lithgow gave a haunting and powerful performance. He's a very versatile actor.

I am really glad I got to see the original apes movie when I was younger. before the reboot and this new movie. One problem with seeing burton's or this new prequel and never having seen the original is you really spoil that great reveal you got in the original planet of the apes.

Speaking of the Original Planet of the Apes,
[BLACKOUT]

This new film tries so hard to set up elements of the original film, even showing the liftoff of the icarus. However, humans were wiped out by nukes in the original. I'm actually fine with this change and I almost wish the film had done more to stand apart from the old series (way too many callbacks) However I must wonder, in this changed version of events, what will Taylor say when he finds the statue of liberty in a world wiped out of a virus? "They blew their noses! Damn them, damn them all to hell!" ?
