Wow this movie was amazing! I had no idea what to expect going in and was thoroughly floored - Caesar and his arc was by far the greatest thing about the movie. The scenes where he was growing up in Will's house were some of the best in the movie. I liked some of the unexpected humor too like when Caesar swung across the ceiling to get at some food.
I agree that James Franco and Freida Pinto didn't really do much, they were just supporting vehicles for Caesar's arc. As far as the human characters, I loved to hate both the next-door neighbor and "Malfoy". I was expecting Brian Cox to be in the movie more too, but he didn't do much either.
The action overall was amazing stuff - the apes in the city and on the bridge delivered pure badassness. The gorilla btw was my 2nd favorite character after Caesar - I wanted to see it rampaging and causing destruction and wasn't disappointed.
And the way the apes crossed the bridge was awesome too - those were definitely some of the coolest shots I've ever seen in a movie that featured the Golden Gate Bridge.
Very well-made and very entertaining movie. Loved Caesar's "NO" scene in particular, that was a totally awesome holy-crap moment. Coming after a ton of comic book-based movies this year (my favorite CBM this year is definitely X:FC) it actually felt refreshing to get a good ol' sci-fi movie. Looking forward to a sequel.
