I admit I don't know much about Robert Downey Jr( I only just discovered that he was born on April 4, 1965-according to his Wikipedia biography) but he seems fairly well suited for the title role of "Iron Man" despite criticisms that his slim build is inappropriate for Tony Stark's( so what- it's not as if Stark is some Schwarzenegger clone -his armor does the heavy lifting , remember?) as for the fact that he has brown hair(Downey that is)- so what , a dab of hair dye will change that.
I think he's fairly well suited for the role of industrialist/playboy Tony Stark(but does anybody think that say Nicolas Cage would do better ?)

First post.

Already been discussed.....i think there's a thread...somewhere.

Robert Downey Jr, oscar-winning respected actor, bears resemblance towards Tony Stark.

Nicholas Cage, not that good an actor, bears little resemblance to Tony Stark.

And you want him over RDJ?

Erm... actually those criticisms you mentioned aren't very prominent... at all. The only real criticism is that he might be a little bit on the old side. Other than that, the overwhelming majority of people are definitely for RDJ as Stark.

As for Nicolas Cage.... What?? No, dude.... No.

Since when was Tony Starks a slacked jaw yokel looking dude?

 Are you serious?

If you check the info in IMDb, you'll find that Downey was just nominated for Chaplin'92, but he didn't get the award.

As for Cage, he got Oscar Award for Best Leading Role in film Leaving las Vegas.

Yes, I am agreed that Downey is great actor and better choice for Iron Man, but I can't say that Cage is awful only because he made some dumb blockbusters.

I'm with QWERTY on this one, Cage is crazy out of his mind now and is no longer an actor sought out for roles that aren't written for him. And Iron-Man is written for no one, you must become Tony Stark.

He won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Why do any of you even mention Cage? He's already established as Ghost Rider!

I've admitted I'm wrong, now drop it.

The point is, RDJ is a better candidate for Stark than Nicholas Cage.

I agree with you and both RDJ and Cage are in my favorite actors list. I just wanted to correct you.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG, WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG. YOUR WRONG

First of all
Neither even slightly look similar to Stark.

Second
Cage is an excellent Actor

If you don't think Downey looks even a little (in reality, he looks more than "little") like Stark, then you are loco roco, my friend,

Sorry, but once again I must say wrong.

I have seen one picture of stark the ever looked even kind of similar to a picture of RDJ.

I think RDJ is a horrible casting choice he is far to old for the part, and in my opinion bares little to no resemblance to Tony Stark.

With that said I will still watch the movie. Because I am a huge fan of IronMan, and because I think RDJ is an excellent actor.

I'd say RDJ simply because he looks better with facial hair than Cage. Anyone remember Cage's brief lip broom in Face/Off? Or his Award-winning stache in Raising Arizona? Gives me the chills.
