Horror Robert Eggers to direct 13th Century Werewolf Thriller ‘Werwulf’

Speaking of that scene, everybody check out the reaction from @shesscared on yt it's so perfect. lol

EggersFilms shared a brief video of Eggers doing a Q&A where he confirmed it's a medieval werewolf movie and that it's the darkest thing he's ever written.
I can't wait!

He needs to do a 12th century romantic comedy all with original language from that period.

Eggman's about to cook.

They still speak old/middle English in the Black Country region of the midlands, England.

Between this, his Labyrinth sequel and his Christmas Carol, I wonder if Eggers actually manages to make them all, or if one doesn’t end up making the cut.

So we should get casting news this month if production starts in September. Frankly I'm surprised we haven't already heard anything.

Werwulf is described as a werewolf horror film set in 13th century England and is set to feature Old English dialogue. The film was first announced in January 2025, following the release of Eggers’ last film, Nosferatu. Eggers had co-written the film with frequent collaborator, Sjón (The Northman) and will be producing alongside Sjón. Focus Features is set to distribute the film. Sources tell Nexus Point News that Taylor-Johnson is set to play the titular werewolf, with Depp set to portray his wife. The script reportedly features elements of witchcraft and is described as one of Eggers’ goriest projects to date. Production is expected to begin this September.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, at least around here but I think Aaron Taylor Johnson is a solid actor who was still good in Nosferatu despite having to hold his own against Skarsgard, Dafoe, Hoult, etc. and he was also pretty good in 28 Years Later. He's fine when he's working with a capable director and I don't understand the hate.

Talk to 'em.

I don't understand the level of hate the guy gets. At worst he was perfectly fine in Nosferatu, but for my part his scene in the cemetery hit me right in the feels.

Been dying for a cast update on this. Lessssgo.

His marriage is creepy... But he's the inferior ATJ. :o

Thanks rantsona YouTube guy for pointing out the odd delivery of the beach scene with Lily.

ATJ is fantastic and terribly underrated. There’s always been a strange, totally unwarranted hostility towards him I’ve never understood. Dudes in a lot of bad movies but so are a lot of actors people adore.

Lily I thought was abysmal in Nosferatu apart from a few notable exceptions so I’m a little disappointed she’s now a major Eggers collaborator, on the other hand.

I’m just disappointed it’s another monster movie, now with a chunk of the same cast as his last monster movie. Oh well.
