Robert Pattinson IS The Batman

I'm neautural about this casting until something official from the film is released like an official first look photo or the teaser trailer.

I'll be interested to see what Pattinson can do. I haven't seen his recent films that seem to be getting high acclaim.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, he deserves that much at least. Now, what's non-negotiable in my mind, is that he must look the part, fully. He needs to take his physical training at least as seriously as Cavill did for MOS and really embody the character. Young Batman is the peak of human physical fitness. If he just half-asses it, I'm gonna be pissed.

Such an irrelevant factor.

Lets hope this Batman actually makes a Batman film unlike the last one. :D

May turn out to be a great bit of casting, some will no doubt freak out at a "pretty boy" being cast but then a lot did over a certain Heath Ledger.....

Such an irrelevant factor.
Maybe for some. Hugh Jackman getting into amazing shape for Wolverine really helped my enjoyment of him in the X-films. I appreciate that he went to the effort to do that. I don’t see it as all that different from the method acting of DDL and Ledger as Joker.

Or Joaquin getting skinny for Joker, or Robert De Niro getting really muscular and then fat for Raging Bull... a character body is important to represent that character.
Yep, Bale for Machinist and Batman Begins.

Such an irrelevant factor.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree then, because it's a very relevant factor to me, and I bet a lot of other people.

I'm sure he'll do at least good in the acting department, he's got the chops for that, and that is the more important factor of the two.

But this isn't the 80s or 90s anymore, West or Keaton in an updated suit isn't going to cut it anymore. Certain standards have been set for superhero films in general, but Batman is an especially physical character, he doesn't have superpowers, he needs to be in tremendous shape to do the things he does, and in the last 30+ years he has been depicted as such in the source material.

Not to mention, as someone who trains regularly myself, I know that hard training has a profound effect not just on the body, but the mind as well. It drowns out all the irrelevant bull**** around you and gives you an air of calm and confidence, because it puts other things in perspective.

Why anyone would see this as irrelevant, especially for a character like Batman, is beyond me.

Looking jacked is meaningless. It’s his performance that matters.

And jacked dudes are crap at martial arts. Looks at MMA fighters. Bulky muscle slows you down and makes you a less effective combatant.

Apples and oranges.

I'd argue that being jacked is part of the performance. A good balance between strong and agile is what Pattinson needs to achieve, Hugh Jackman is actually a really good example. Batman needs to look like he'd be able to sneak around and beat up a lot of thugs very quickly and also look like he could lift something heavy in order to save an innocent person.

Not that it entirely meaningless, but for Batman it rather is. He isn't running around in a wife beater.

I agree that he needs to train and workout but I'm sure he'll do his best and make a commitment. I doubt he wants to mess up a big break like this at all

I want him to bulk up, just not Affleck-in-BvS bulky. Im happy they chose Pattinson, I'm sure he will be the best Batman yet

Of course performance is most important but physical appearance and being in great shape is a big factor for a role like this

Well apparently he was really unprofessional on the set of Twilight, but maybe he changed.

This is not about eye candy but selling the role. I won't really buy Pattinson beating up huge guys if he looks like he does rn
But you probably buy Catwoman with high heels or Batgirl, right?

Just saw the news on the main page. Not so sure I really see Pattinson as Batman, but admittedly it's mostly just because he's thin for his height. I might be able to see it if he gained some weight and mass—specifically around his chin, which is just too angular-looking. Batman's chin is important to get right! ;)
