Robin Hood

Wow, where've I been?! What's up with this? Ridley Scott, Russel Crowe, Robin Hood?

Sounds like something that's supposed to be good but ends up being sh**. I don't know why. Sounds like a load of talented people *********ing each other to death.

RS: Hey, Russel! I wanna make an epic film where you wear tights.

RC: Wow, cool. What's the story?

RS: I don't care! I just wanna see you in ****ing tights.

We need a good manip from Crowe as RH....im not good in doing fan Art so maybe someone of you Guys could come up with something.

They need to do this ******** like the Scooby-Doo movie..set it AFTER the events of Robin Hood, and have an aged Robin, Marian, Merry Men and Sheriff, long after King John is dead. And they have to reunite for the common goal.

I'm ok at doing the odd manip but I really cannot be bothered for this. I'm sat here waiting for a Ridley Scott sci-fi film and find he's doing a Robin Hood film instead. I am not impressed at all.

I just want Ridley to make 'The Kind One'. :(

So they are positioning this as a summer blockbuster, interesting. I am open to see how it turns out even though I wanted the more original concept, I mean there has never been a really great dramatic epic made of Robin Hood and Ridley is certainly the man for the job, however Crowe is the obstacle here, I just cannot picture him a Robin Hood no matter how hard I try.

Maybe Crowe will drop out due to weight issues, and "Fightin' around the world!"

Crowe and Scott are so big in hollywood that he can be the fattest guy on earth and still play the main character.

I'll point out again that..I feel like Crowe isn't aging too well but that's me.

maybe Tugger will cameo in this film... or at least we'll get a clip of Robin Hood going in to a hospital to fight cancer, but instead has to fight a man with cancer

I think he'll look okay if he can drop the weight. But yeah, in Body of Lies he looked like the reincarnation of J.T. Walsh.

If you are looking for a good aged RH movie, I highly recommend Richard Lester's"Robin and Marian", with a Sean Connery in his fifties and Audrey Hepburn in the titular roles. Nottingham is played by Robert Shaw, making it the second time he fights Connery on screen ("From Russia with love").
It is an awesome film imo and my favourite RH one with Flynn's version.

I'm giving everyone a chance. Crowe too. I believe he can play a badass Robin Hood. And he doesn't have to wear tight for God's ska.e I imagine Scott doing somehting else with the look. Plus, I think Crowe may have trimmed down and bulked up.

so i saw the adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn. Good movie, and from a modern point of view, it's very...merry. Not that's a bad thing but my LORD Prince John was the most femmy ruler ever.

It's so funny too that the Sheriff in this version was a buffoon while the other guy (whose name is GUY) is the second in command bad-arse. It was weird to watch that, and honestly, they probably were more accurate to the mythos. However, I like the Sheriff so much that he needs to be Robin's nemesis, not Guy.

Well to be fair, most real life lords and princes were "femmy" by today's standards.

Yeah, that's why I was looking forward to the Sheriff's point of view movie. Sort of a looking at the vendetta from both sides.

I'd love to see something step up to being dirty, like a tone Jackson did with LOTR where you got the sense peole had been living there for a long time.

Also, this could be very cool if it was violent and darker. I could see that working.

Has the Sheriff been cast yet?

Mark Strong (Stardust, Rocknrolla) is reportedly cast as either Guy of Gisbourne or the Sheriff.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Vanessa Redgrave has joined the cast to play Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, mother of King John (Oscar Isaacs). In addition to Redgrave is French actress Lea Seydoux, "who plays Princess Isabella in the upcoming 'Inglourious Basterds.'"

I'm surprised that Redgrave is working so soon after the death of her eldest daughter Natasha Richardson. I would've thought she would've put future projects on hold until she felt ready to come back and work.

  • Vanessa Redgrave (Julia, Atonement) as John and Richard’s mother, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine
  • Mark Strong (Body of Lies, Stardust) as King John’s vicious henchman, Sir Godfrey
  • Oscar Isaac (Che, Body of Lies) as King John
  • Léa Seydoux (13 French Street, Inglourious Basterds) as the woman who will become queen, French Princess Isabella
Robin’s band of men:

  • Kevin Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 3:10 to Yuma) as Robin’s right-hand, Scotsman Little John
  • Alan Doyle as their troubadour, Irishman Allan Adayle
We are also given the first official plot synopsis for the film, which you can read after the jump.

Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as Robin Hood, whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. In 13th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. And whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol of freedom for his people.

The untitled Robin Hood adventure chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.

So who is playing the Sheriff ? Is he even in the film ? I vote Viggo.

In other words...it's the Kevin Costner version but with an actor who speaks in an English accent.

hahah. there is a twist with the sheriff. or why is he not mentioned in the main cast? he is important.

Not just that, you have Ridley directing this movie. Plus, Cate will light up this movie more so than, say, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Olivia de Havilland or Lucy Griffiths did when they played Maid Marian.

Cate usually picks good to interesting projects, so it should be much more enjoyable than the 1991 Costner disaster.
