Action-Adventure Robocop 2 & 3

I guess the old man was more morally ambiguous in the first one because he was hardly in it, but given his line to Murphy at the end along with the fact that Murphy personally saved his life, it came off that the old man was a good guy...or at least not a villain like Dick Jones or Boddicker. Then in the second one, he all of a sudden is the behind the scenes villain. If anything, I'd say it's just so random.

As for Robocop 2, the movie sucks. The single scene that I absolutely HATE with a passion is the scene when Robocop walks in on that dying kid and we're supposed to have sympathy for him. F*** that kid. Also, I hated that they completely negated the point of the first movie in regards to Murphy. He has ZERO humanity whatsoever. The satire was also handled poorly and just came off as annoying rather than clever like the original.

Well, its everyone's preference of course but for me its a stellar sequel and a terrific, very fun, gory scifi action picture. Is it as good as original? Sure not. But thats hardly a criticism. New Hope isnt as good as Empire, but that doesnt mean its bad or anything. I think R2 hit all the right notes and delivered the goods

As for Burke in the Robo suit - I thought he did a nice job with movement, but then again he had the same trainer Weller had. Its the lack of personality and the robotic behavior that bothers me a whole lot tho

@JamesCameronOnline: Love your blogs. Keep them posts coming. Very interesting stuff! ;)

I've always enjoyed RoboCop 2 a lot. It's not as good as the original but still a lot of fun and it never fails to entertain. RoboCop 3 on the other hand deserves the hate it gets, truly a terrible movie.

Aronofsky recently said he hasn't closed the book entirely on directing the Robocop reboot. I really like the character but part 2 doesn't hold up for me as it once did and
part 3 is unwatchable despite having a couple decent ideas.

.....still, if Aronofsky doesn't do it, there are other potential choices out there:

-Alex Proyas("The Crow", "I, Robot")

-Vince Vaughn("Kick-Ass", "X-Men:First Class")

-Stephen Norrington(Blade)

-Nimrod Antal("Predators")

Another rezed thread. *loads shotgun*

I loved Robocop 2. Watch that robot testing video & not laugh you ass off I dare you. That is some funny sh**!

Plus it brought back the classic RoboCop music from 1st film's composer Basil Poledouris (I HATED the music in part 2, it almost ruined the film for me).

One of the few pluses of the film, if nothing else.

as a fan of the 1st and 3rd films music I was bummed that the soundtrack release of part 3 was so short in length compared to the one for the first film. i saw clips on youtube where somebody inserted part 1 music score bits over part 2 footage and it made the scene so much better. hell look at the teaser trailer for part 2 which was the gun store robbery in the film and the use of the 1st film music made me smile.

It still pisses me off to this day that they changed the score for Robocop 2, I mean why? What was the reasoning behind it? Strange, I liked R2 as well but the score from the first movie being there would have made it a lot better.

I know right, it is amazing how easy bad music can ruin a good movie. I remember when I saw Goldeneye in the theaters I really did not like the music, it just did not scream '007 movie' to me (except the tank chase in Russia, that ruled!). but when I saw Tomorrow Never dies right from the beginning to the end I truly felt like I was watching a BOND film. Mad props to David Arnold's scores from that film as well as Word, Die, Casino, and Quantum :awesome:.

Anyone ever watch prime directives. I got about halfway through and then sold them to a dvd store.

I have all 4 DVDs of the mini series Prime Directives as well as the Trilogy and I have the entire live action TV show that lasted 1 season on my PC via torrent ;).

yeah, I guess I am kinda robo obsessed ;).

I dont think it would fit. The second one was more of an action piece rather than a character driven movie focused on pathos, so I dont picture R1 score with R2. Plus I always thought R2 score fits the movie perfectly, plus it sounds nice, very classic

Robocop is a true genre classic in every sense of the word - sharp, satirical, violent, full of awesome visuals and sound, excellently directed, edited and acted etc; Robocop 2 had the potential to be up there along side it but the execution was lacking [although it does have its plus points] and the less said about Robocop 3 the better.

By the way, anyone get a strong Delta City/Robocop 2 unveling press conference feeling when Hammer introduces the Hammerdrones at the Stark Expo in Iron Man 2? Kinda makes me wonder what that scene would look like now if done with ILM CG as opposed to Tippet Studios Stop-Motion. Amazing is my guess...........

Cain: You want me?
RoboCop: Dead or alive.
Cain: One of us must die.
RoboCop: Dead, then.

Badass.

Ha, that line ALWAYS makes me laugh. I don't know why, but just about everything in this movie makes me laugh.

As a kid I really liked Robocop 2, however I watched it again when I was in grad school and really saw how bad it was. There were elements of a good film in there. It kept a good deal of the original cast, Murphy, his partner, and the black sergeant, a plus. I liked the Kid, though I admit that he was cooler when I was younger. Kane didn't do anything for me then or later, however I thought the updated Robocop was a bad piece of machinery (bad meaning good). I didn't mind the OCP corporate guy-he was evil and funny at the same time, and I liked the hot evil doctor.

The film erred in only giving us a scene with Murphy and his wife. Even back then, I found that touching and wanted to see more of it. I think they jettisoned Murphy's humanity way too much in the sequel. I also didn't like the stereotypical black mayor. That was way overboard.

As for Robocop 3, I also think there were seeds of a good film in there as well, though not as many as with Robocop 2. I think the new actor was a decent stand-in for Weller and the story had potential though ultimately lackluster, and the production values weren't there for me.

I saw some of it back in the day, but couldn't get into it, which doesn't explain why I recently purchased what I think is a part of Prime Directives. Probably feeling nostalgic. I did enjoy the TV series though.

I was desperate but Directives might of been good with a bigger budget.

I would buy practically anything with Robocop and even had some of the absurd comics . I barely remember the show but I'm gonna watch it again sometime soon. A Robocop series on HBO would be awesome if it was done today.

What really gets me in part 2 is how they introduce the story line with his wife- and then drop it completely.
To me, that was the most interesting thing happening in the entire film.

But what else was there to touch upon? He was fed the speech about how he wouldnt do any good to them by sticking around anyway, and that was true. He couldnt be a real husband and offer a real man's love and company to his wife and his "condition" would only be a reminder of what he is and what happened. His wife was in bad mental shape by that point anyway.

I think Sarge means that it was interesting that they didn't do something more cliched, like having her end up in danger, or something to that effect. I think we all agree that it was good that it was just a quick moment in the film, and elaborating on it would have been pointless.

Although every TV movie and the series tried to shoehorn his old life and even made his son (as an adult) more of a corporate villain.
