RoboCop Reboot

I like Russell Crowe, but not as Alex Murphy. Even if he becomes more lean than he is currently, it won't make the transition from man to machine have as much of an impact. He just has that physical presence like he did as Budd White or Maximus.

Peter Weller was a marathon runner and a thin guy, after the transformation to Robo, well...you feel the difference. I still love the idea of someone like Fassbender or Guy Pearce even.

I don't think Crowe is being looked at for Murphy. I could see him making a great Clarence or Dick Jones, though.

I was just speculating, he might be Murphy after all.

Uggh, what's the point of making the character Murphy? The beauty of the Robocop premise is that anyone can become Robo. The only right way to do this is make it an entirely different character with a new story and new villain(s). I'll be damned if there's two Clarence Boddickers in this world.

No.

The beauty is that not everybody can. Murphy was a special case because of his dedication even when most cops were protesting to not work because of their pay.

The job meant more than money to him it was a natural calling in life for him regardless of how much he got paid. He switches from a precinct most cops wouldn't ever leave but he does so anyway because of his genuinely good heart and 100% willingness to combat crime.

Although Robocop 2 has its problems, one thing I did like about that movie is how it showed that trying to make another Robocop in a similar fashion as Murphy is pretty much impossible to accomplish. He was really one of a kind.

Yeah, the more I think about it, if they're going to do a reboot, I want Alex Murphy.

Crowe's good but I have a hard time seeing him as Murphy. He seems much more suited for either Clarence, Jones or Morton, in my opinion. I hope Fassbender lands the role of Murphy, he'd be great for it.

So what is he, Jesus Christ?...Never mind that. :hehe: But couldn't there be some new guy who learns some life lesson through the Robo plan? I'd like to see something different while still being in the same vein of the original.

I don't think you can match a villain as cool as clarence, who else can say,"*****es leave" as sly and cold as him?

i hope Crowe is the bad guy. either Clarence or Jones. i see him more as Jones though.

I don't have link to news item. But saw story saying crowe went to twitter and denyied the rumors of robocop.

Did anyone actually take this rumor seriously? I rolled my eyes the moment I heard about it.

^ Why? I could see Crowe as Dick Jones or Clerence Bodicker.

Crowe would make a good Jokes, but he's not really Murphy material.

I don't see Murphy as having a firm personality and appearance that would make me dislike Crowe for the role. As long as the origin remains the same and they preserve his fleeting connection to his past I feel Crowe could work. It's more important that he get Robocop right, because there's a lot of room to play around with Alex Murphy in my opinion. The original Murphy was certainly a lot more meek than Crowe is, but I think that aspect of Robocop could be modernized a bit. Although I personally wouldn't choose Crowe. Mostly I'd want someone younger.

I don't see it being that far out of idea. Crowe been getting roles of late. So he was getting out there again. So its a chance of it happening. Maybe for all we know it was director/writer/studio coming out with rumor. To try and get crowe interested. Who knows.

Im so interested in the way they approach the design of Robocop given the technological advancements made since the 80s

also for me I rather have some one like crowe/fassbender over some silly 20 something actor. I would hate to see someone like channing tatum as robocop.

an old actor will not happen IMO. i would like that they cast an old 30-40 actor. but hollywood changed.

Fassbender's name gets thrown into a lot of film discussions here, but there's something about him which I think would be perfect for Robocop. He has some quality which reminds me a little of Weller.

Crowe seems a lil too high profile. Its in the same vein of having Brad Pitt as Captain America.

Plus, based on the type of work he's done, it doesn't really seem like his kind of thing. Which was confirmed with his denial.

Crowe was high profile. the fact that he is playing joer-el in the first 10 minutes where he dies shows that Crowe is aware that he is down and needs to come back. he had flops,underperformers,....

he is a fantastic actor. hard to work with........very hard but a good actor. i belived the rumors about robocop because Crowe needs big movies to get his name back on top of hollywood.
