RoboCop Returns?

The studio confirmed way back at NY licesing event earlier this summer they are going to make this be R rated, and then when director came on board it was reaffirmed that the film will be R.

With Aronofsky on board, I'd think so. The scene when Murphy died in the first film was nuts.

Now, is this a remake? Or a reboot? Or a rebooted sequel, ignored Robocop 2 and 3? Or this is a new story that takes place within the same world, without ties to the original films?

That has been the issue some early reports said it was to be a sequel then reports of a reboot/reimaging now i dont know off the top of my head what it is.

It's not the gore but the brutality that's disturbing.

just because you can handle it doesn't really make it not disturbing. it is very disturbing...and that's what makes it an amazing kick-ass film

If it's a reboot they can jamb it. I really like the other idea about the Robocop program being reinstated. There's narrative tension if it's a sequel.

I fail to see why the last film would have any bearing on this one. I mean, it was 15 years ago since it was released.

Once the general public see the 1st teasers and trailers for the new movie and realizes that this isn't the same watered-down crap like the 3rd film; I'd say it will get peoples interest.

I don't even think people remember Robocop 3. When the trailer hits, I think people will be reminded of Verhoeven's flick.

I think the great aspects of the first movie is that they mixed so well the violence and the satire/black humour. Even the violence is over the top and it became funny ("Somebody call a paramedic!" after Kenny´s death).

The sequels didn´t make the same. The second movie was like the "first x 100". Too much violence and disgusting scenes (Robo without arms and legs, agent Duffy being ripped by Cain thugs).I can´t stand it, it´s "too ugly". I´m a fan of Frank Miller´s work and I adore his black humour, but I think RoboCop 2 is "too much". I like some aspects of RoboCop 3, but it looked like a prequel for the first TV series. Action, but not enough violence.

The second series, Prime Directives, was ok. Of course you can blame that production for being cheap and other things, but under the "Star Wars","Matrix","Predator" and "B Movie Mad Scientific" elements the four part series handled well the mix of violence and satire.

Why, dude? The original is a masterpiece. You actually expect them to surpass it with a remake. Doing a remake of Earth Stood Still is like trying to remake The Godfather.

well there is a fourth installment in the series, so it wouldn't actually be too far-fetched. al pacino is younger than his character in the third one, so it could still happen.

but yeah i hope they don't touch the first/second one, or citizen kane or casablanca or gone with the wind. but i've heard things here and there about those.
