Robotech is on the way!

My fav was when rick and lisa get captured by the zentredi and max saves both their asses.

My favs:
-Breetai fighting the Battloid when they are captured
-Max and Miriya playing the videogames and she finding out he is the ace
-When Rick hears that Roy died

LOL at Max putting Ben in one pocket and Rick and Lisa in another after they kiss thinking Max Veritech is a Zentradi :oldrazz:

Max and miriya meeting at the arcade was a great moment in robotech history.

I never watched the show but it sounds like a cool concept and should be spectacular

I have no opinion on Maguire as i have no idea what the guy is like he is supposed to be playing.

"Robotech" was a cartoon series during the 1980s from Harmony Gold USA and Tatsunoko Productions. It was re-edited and re-dialogued to combine three Japanese anime series to give the producers enough episodes to air as a daily syndicated series.

How the hell did they make that work ?

The second one starred a woman who was the child of Max and Miriya (From the first season). The first episode of the second series showed flashbacks of the first.

The third one makes references to Rick Hunter from the first season and even one of the last songs of the third is from the first series.

robotech sage (ft Rick Hunter ,Lisa,Max and Miriyia )
Robotech Masters ( ft Dana Sterling who was Max and Miriya's child)
then the third series ft Scott Bernard who at the end of the series went into space to serch for Admiral hunter .

Thanks guys, my mistake was i thought they meant it was meshed together out of 3 totally separate animes :O

It was.

Robotech was an English mash-up of three totally unrelated anime series. They all had giant transforming robots and alien invasions, but that was all they had in common in Japan.

With mixed results.

Anyone who likes Japanese animation will tell you to watch the subtitled unedited original versions of Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada to really appreciate them. The American "Robotech" re-edit of all three series left out some plot points (not to mention some violence and brief nudity). However, Robotech was the best English-translated anime series we had back then, so I still have fond memories of it.

Tobey is too old to play Rick Hunter (AKA Hikaru Ichijo), but I could maybe see him as Scott Bernard (AKA Steik Bernard) from 3rd Generation Robotech.

I actually like 3rd Generation (Mospeada) best, even though Macross is a true classic.

Really? I think of a veteran fighter pilot. I think Tobey should be like Max Sterling if he had to be anybody.

I could see Tobey as Max I suppose. He'll be closest in age to Roy Fokker (ha ha - "Meet the Parents" joke goes here), but he's not tough-looking enough to play Roy.

Max sterling wasnt a veteran fighter pilot, he has a ''rookie'' like Rick Hunter.

I can see Toby playing Max as wel :(

True - Max was young. He was just a genius pilot. In the original Japanese version his last name was actually "Genius". How subtle.

I meant that I thought Fokker was the veteran fighter pilot so they'd need someone older to play his role.

Max was a rookie prodigy said to be the best pilot out of them all though.

How about Ali Larter from Heroes as Miriya?

lol I did not know that.

My very favorite toys of the 1980s...

Nice. I want them to come out with reissues of the mospeda bikes.

Since I´m not a fan - I don´t even remember that show airing in my country when i was a kid, though, and I distinctively remember watching classic animes like Speed Racer and Star Blazers, what can you tell me about it? If done it right, should it be less silly than Transformers - please say yes!

As for Maguire, well, face it, all guys in animes have the same "baby-look", so I don´t see the problem...:woot:

It's hard for Robotech to be sillier than Transformers. Earth's surface was decimated by the Zentradei attacks - something that won't go well with an American audience unless it's a Terminator film. That instantly translates into billions of people getting killed which in turn could be interpreted as defeatist in attitude.

Furthermore, the Battloid's don't talk. It's all about the human pilots, the SDF forces, and the people stuck inside a ship that the Zentradei want. A big difference between the movie and the TV series is how the civilians inside couldn't leave the ship because:

1) The SDF-1 jumped all the way to Pluto in the first attempt. So they had nowhere to get off until reaching Earth. So the civilians had to share their lives with the military. In the movie the Earth is already a wasteland when they return. In the TV series it wasn't wasted until the big battle.

2) After returning to Earth no nation would accept the civilians because the Zentradei forces kept pursuing the SDF-1. But in the movie, there was no safe place to put civilians since civilization appeared to be gone.

It's coming this Christmas, supposedly. Check out the Alpha and the Beta. Those are gonna be pretty gigantic when combined.

The Masterpiece Collection is awesome.

Actually, the governments on earth didn't let the civilians return to earth to try to avoid that the general population learn of the existence of the zentraedi
