In case you hadn't heard, the Rock Band franchise is coming to PSP. However, unlike the Guitar Hero titles for the Nintendo DS, Rock Band for PSP will not utilize any silly looking peripherals to play the game. Instead, it will be more of a spiritual successor to some of Harmonix's older games, Frequency, and its spiritual successor Amplitude. Players will push buttons to match "phrases" on guitar, drums, and vocals, rather than being a direct port of the Rock Band / Guitar Hero play style.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. Hopefully, Harmonix finds some way to carry over their downloadable music platform into this game to boost its longevity. Above all else though, I hope it has a slick ad-hoc multiplayer mode. :D

When it comes to handhelds, I'm of the opinion that less is more. I'm glad that they're offering a simplified Rock Band experience that will be easy to pick up and play, instead of going the silly / awkward / gimmicky route of Guitar Hero On Tour.

I like that there isn't a lame peripheral like the DS has.

I played it and I have to say it works. I actually like what they did here and its not as bad as some people may have thought it would be.
