Zemeckis Developing Roger Rabbit Sequel?
Source: MTV April 30, 2009

MTV caught up with director Robert Zemeckis, who told the site he is interested in revisiting Who Framed Roger Rabbit. We received the following:

Talk of a "Roger Rabbit" sequel has been going on since the film originally hit theaters, but now it appears closer than ever. Speaking to MTV News this week, director Robert Zemeckis confirmed that he's been "buzzing" about bringing his twittery character back to the bigscreen.

"I'll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability—the digital tools, performance capture—I'm starting to think about 'Roger Rabbit,'" he told us.

Damn it. You beat me to it. I was about to post that. lol.

I'd rather he make an adaptation of the original book "Who Censord Roger Rabbit?"

It's much more dirty and adult :woot:

he wouldnt be 3D right? it would still be 2d animation right?

I doubt it, given the kinds of tech zemeckis is working with these days.

but he is a 2D character. i think the technology is better to make 2D animation with real people together.

There will probably be a entire sequence discussing how the toons have having to alter themselves(plastic surgery spoof) into 3d to keep up with the newer toons.

If Roger Rabbit is 2D then I think I'll be okay with this. I'd hate to see a 3D Roger. I guess we'll see what happens.

Maybe Zemeckis will use a real rabbit and CGI people.

No. Not a good idea. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is ****ing awesome on it's own.

They could do it, I suggested they move the story to the 1950s, where cartoons have changed into more streamlined merchandise formats, and Roger is still a 1940s screwball character, and his attempts to change with the times. Though this was the decade where Chuck Jones transformed his Looney Tunes style into a more sarcastic thing.

This project sounds 20 years too late.

Could they even have all of the cameos from other cartoon characters in the movie these days? The first movie showed the only time you ever saw Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny together.

I hate it. You can't make a sequel especially with the main actors.

The movie is perfect, you can't improve on perfection.

i think the bugs bunny and mickey mouse thing was a one time deal

I couldn't agree more.

I duno, it's too far late for a sequal, but then again, I always enjoyed that movie and Roger (and I'm down to see more Jessica Rabbit and the baby character). I can see a whole new world being dragged into Rogers life with the uprise of 3D animation (not Roger in 3D no no no). Roger meets the new kids on the street, the 3D characters and feels like a relic and thing of the past and focus a story about that. It be an interesting movie. Maybe get Pixar in on the movie.

2D and 3D characters together in one film. Throw in a myster/drama angle and there ya go.

But I'm not that excited about a sequal. It's far too late for that. Kids today have no clue who Roger Rabbit was and that would be the target audenince who would see this film. They need to reintroduce Roger someway, somehow before a movie can be planned.
