Roland Emmerich’s Next Space Epic ‘Moonfall’ Lands At Universal

Yeah, that sounds like him.

Not to be confused with the other Moonfall, which is a Fargo mystery that takes place on the moon (sounds way more interesting than this. I'm all for fun blockbusters but I'm tried of disaster pics.)

Yeah, more stupid **** like this please Emmerich and less rehashing your previous hits.

Don't want to see it? Don't go see it.

I'm going to see it.

Actually where Emmerich is going with the Independence Day franchise isn't really a re-hash, just hope we get to see it all --

The humans with the aid of a robotic alien travel to a planet of survivor refuges that consists of many alien species to fight the invading aliens in an all out intergalactic war.

Part of the Independence Day charm for me was that it was a self contained story. That's what I enjoy about Emmerich, he tells his story and moves on.

Remember that II and III were originally scheduled to film back to back, so this is largely one story. Just like the last Harry Potter film was split in two. II and III is one large story, just hoping we get to see it all.

Yeah I can just see the cgi title waves due to the moon being off balance

Cgi tidal wave washes up the Hollywood sign

Or sudden freak winters due to the moon getting further

Emmerich just recently mocked "Silly comic book movies" a week ago.

Then...is now set to direct a 'Moon failing to Earth" movie.

He thinks comic films are superhero stuff.

He should watch Dredd, Road to Perdition, Sin City, 300, Akira, History of Violence etc.

The worst thing about this plot is that at the movie's conclusion, werewolves and quirky behavior will be rendered obsolete in this universe

I'm willing to bet this is based on the novel of the same name by Jack McDevitt.

Top review: Forget "Armeggedon". Forget "Deep Impact". This is THE space/disaster book that SHOULD have been made into a movie.

At the center of the story is Charlie Haskell, the U.S. vice president, who in 2024--an election year--has arrived at the American Moonbase to cut the ribbon and declare it operational. But there's a problem, and it's a doozy: a "sun-grazer" comet, with immense mass and speed, is on a collision course with the moon. Haskell, with an eye to his public image, puts himself at the bottom of the evacuation list. But time grows critically short, and soon more than his political future is in jeopardy--broken chunks of moon will begin exploding outwards. If they reach Earth, some of the chunks are big enough to cause an extinction event.

Pretty much a remake to Armageddon but now it's the moon. Eh whatever, should be a fun popcorn movie

This sounds like it'd be kinda of a short movie since the moon's pretty damn close to Earth as it. That thing gets knocked out of oribit and hits us, it's not gonna be pretty and would happen very quickly. It's not like an asteroid where those things take a while to get here.

Yup, that's what I thought, as well.
And I don't know about it being a fun popcorn movie. "Stargate," "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow" were all fun popcorn movie. I even enjoyed "Godzilla." But after "2012" and the "Independence Day" sequel I don't know if he still has it in him.

Lionsgate looks to be his new go to now.
