Finished this commission up last night. The highly rendered pencils on the Surfer made my job easy, so I fully painted the background to help make up for it.

In between two days of judging barbecue for the Good Ole Days cookoff out in Texas City (see, living in Texas isn't all bad....), I finished these character sheets up for a book called Apparitions.

The Justice League

This was the first time I've really tried to use the motion blur over a character to show movement, so I'd be really interested in hearing your opinions on that aspect. This one had two versions. This one was a challenge because of the tonal pencils and the size of some of the characters. I ended up doing 100% color holds after playing around with the settings and trying different combos to allow the color to come through from behind the pencils.

I Would perhaps add a little more contrast to the surfer, His colours look a little flat compared to bright background colours.
Still cool though

I believe this is the cover (could just be a spalsh page, I guess) for a project by Marat Mychaels called Demonika.

I made some changes to my original image to bring some glows out on the demon shadow and incorporate it into the wall a bit better. I also put the building in the background into some more shadow to help bring out the foreground.

Just for goofs, this was the original direction I was taking with the image. I incorporated the changes here too, but didn't really play around with things much more than that, so I would still call this a work in progress if I was still going forward with a night scene.

Colored this commission on Sunday. This was a little different for me, since everyone but Johnny was inked and he was done in tonal pencils.

Working on pencils can be a challenge, but I think working with tonal pencils can actually be more challenging. The rendering (for the most part) is already there, so just putting some flats underneath it can give it the appearance of a fully rendered piece. I like the challenge of trying to find ways to bring more out of the pencils. Not that I want to work on it all the time..... :?

Matt Zolman did this pin-up f of Dyna-girl and some of the other cast from Fallen Justice. I liked it so much that I did some colors for it. I'm not wild about the background and am totally open to some suggestions for it.
