Ross Hughes Colors Thread

Thanks, B-man!

Just finished up a three-month project, so I'm finally able to get back to doing some commissions and personal projects. I started on this one and finally was able to get back around to it tonight.

C&C's are encouraged and appreciated!

Free time....who knew? I'm really trying to create some strong portfolio pieces in the coming days. In the mean time, here's a piece that I'm going to have made in to a print in the near future. Me want feedback!!!

Here's my entry into the Master Digital Color Challenge.

I started on this one a couple months ago and had to put it aside. I've been wanting to finish it up for a while now. I've probably still got to make some adjustments to it, but I want to take a break from it and come back to it. In the mean time I figured I'd post it and see what everyone else thought about it.

Sure it looks like Supes has the upper-hand here, but we ALL know how this one is going to turn out, don't we?

This was a fun one to color. I'm not sure I'm entirely happy with the light at the top, but I'm going to take a step back from it and see what others may think before deciding if I need to rework it.

C&C's heartily encouraged!

I'm in awe of your work here. The last one you posted is pretty cool; I like how (to me at least) how Batman and Superman have similar shades of blue, but use them in their costumes so differently. I also like how the light is at the top (by supes) and the darker side is at the bottom (by Batsy).

Thanks, Harls (with an L not a I) :)

I've still got a little work to do on this one I think, but I thought I would post it up and see what others thought. So have at it!!!

Got to talking with Scott Simmons and Brant Fowler about their book "Wannabez" (pronounced Wanna-bees) not too long ago and they we talking about doing the #0 issue in full color and including it in a TB. I did grayscales for it and they were interested in finding out how hard it would be to colorize the grays. I played around with it for about five minutes before I said "Screw this! I'm just going to recolor the pages." It's been over 2 1/2 years since I did the grayscales, and I can make it look so much better if I start from scratch. So here is the first page of the 12 page issue.

Wannabez is a story about a bunch of people who through a series of coincidences believe they have been given super-powers from a meteor that stuck the earth. There is a ton of humor, in jokes, and nods to comic and sci-fi related properties. I colored this page as a night scene before Scott e-mailed me and told me that it should be a day time scene instead, so I'm stumbling out of the gates in true Wannabez fashion. LOL

Unbelievable, I would kill to be able to colour like you.lol:)

Well, if blood is your chosen medium, I guess whatever floats your boat.....:)

This is the cover for the #0 issue of Wannabez. I originally colored this cover 3 years ago and wanted to give it an update while I was coloring the greyscaled interior pages.

C&C's always appreciated.

And for comparison's sake, here are the two versions side by side. I don't do it a whole lot, but I can definitely see the advantage to returning to an image that you've already colored and work it again.

Love to hear everyone's thoughts.

Jonathon Glapion was nice enough to send me a few pages to color up for my portfolio, and I'm finally able to get around to them. Sheesh. Anyway, I'd really appreciate any feedback you may have. Positive or negative. Anything that will help. :)

Thanks! I do have some edits that I'll be making to it though. I've heard that it looks too much like a light-bulb and not enough like a red metal mask. :)

Here are a couple covers I colored for Sniper and Rook that debuted at CCC last weekend. Too late to make any changes for print, but I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have on what I can work on in the future.

I went back and made some adjustments to a couple of pieces and thought I'd share them before I post up some new stuff.

I made some changes to this based off of the feedback I received. The "light bulb" look seemed to be what attracted the wrong kind of attention the most, so I worked on that a bit further. I ended up going a little more toward monochromatic on Batman this time around as well.

Thoughts?

These are a couple of sample pages I did to see how my colors would work with the artists' pencils. The first is from a book called I Was A Teenage Vigilante and the second is a book called We Can Never Go Home Again.

C&C's always welcome.

Started working on some sketch cards recently. I was getting a little frustrated drawing larger pics for some reason, so I decided to go small. :) Also broke out my copic makers for the first time, which was fun. Still have a lot to learn using those. The last one was done for my daughter's 12th birthday a few days ago. I admit that it looks very little like her, but she loved it anyway. :<3:
