Roswell, New Mexico-AlienCraft crash landing

Okay, now I'm not saying I believe that an alien space craft crash landed in New Mexico. I think there are some suspicous things about the whole situation, like the fact that the military originally announced it was an alien spacecraft, and then retracted their statement a week later, saying it was a weather balloon. It is easy to look at that, and say, how could you expect us to believe your that stupid?

But on the other hand, were talking about a highly advanced race. Surely they could prevent a crash landing, and if they did crash land, wouldn't their own species arrive rather soon, to remove the debree?

Anyways nobody knows for sure, but assuming, just assuming, that an alien spacecraft did crashland in Roswell, New Mexico, and the government has been covering it up, should they come clean?

Is the human race ready? How would it react? Would it help humanity socially, or hurt it?

Even though I think the government SHOULD admit to the crashing, I'd sooner believe that they'd admit to there being life outside of Earth than they would to covering up Rosewell. Why? Because from all the studying I've done (and countless hours watching the discovery channel specials over the years ) the governmet has studied what they've found/finding and has made military aircraft based on the designs. If they were to admit to the cover-up, they would be having spies trying to steal the technology.

But thats just my theory.

That's my thinking too. Any change in the general status quo and everyone goes nuts. If there are aliens then damn near every idiot in the US (and well, pretty much everywhere else too...) is going to start shooting people thinking their aliens... The conspiracy guys will have a huge collective heart attack at being proven right and the rest of us will just shrug and get on with our lives.

There’s too many idiots out here for that, it would deliver a fatal blow to religious fundamentalism (who would soon back lash) it would cause panic in the segment in the population that couldn’t stand the idea of their being life outside if this little mud ball known as Earth. The sad truth is that the NSA is making the right move by keeping that little incident secret. I’m well aware of that theory, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it holds no water. The “ancient astronaut” theory is nothing but mere speculation that has aroused from the simple fact that we can’t figure out how the Egyptians quite built those pyramids and such.

I don't think it happened, but if it did, humanity couldn't deal with it. Humans, for the most part, are dumb, panicky creatures who don't adapt well to change and fear the unknown. If it really happened, the government is probably wise in hiding it.
