I was undecied where to put this but since its just a rumor at this point and not about one particular game, I'll place it here

Ever since EA snapped up Bioware, everyone has been considering the possibility of Mass Effect coming to the PlayStation 3. After all, EA's only loyalty is to money, and they're always interested in catering to the largest possible audience.

Well, according to a "fairly reliable source close to Electronic Arts," as reported by SecondStoryGamer, the upcoming sequel and any new installments in the future will indeed be available on Sony's machine, in addition to the Xbox 360 and PC. Evidently - and not surprisingly - EA decided to make the jump to multiplatform due to "the economic outlook." In other words, due to the poor state of the economy, EA wants to make as much as they possibly can out of their current slate of titles, and allowing the critically acclaimed RPG franchise to come to the PS3 would certainly help. As for the original, the source claims it's "likely" that EA will release a port of Mass Effect at some point this year. While we can only classify this information as "rumor" for the time being, we can supposedly expect the official announcement to come at the Game Developer Conference in March. If it does happen, it's good news for all PS3 owners, as it gives them a high-profile RPG series, which is something the PS3's library desperately needs.

We'll keep our eyes peeled for more evidence concerning this breaking news, and if we're lucky, someone from EA might confirm it publicly before GDC 09. But at the very least, this news is quite encouraging

Mass Effect is probably one of the greatest games ever made. It would definitely strengthen the PS3's roster.

Yeah, I'm actually surprised the first game hasn't came over, yet.

Well I wouldn't be surprised, it was published by Microsoft Game Studios. I would be surprised if it ever gets to PS3 to be honest.

Maybe M$ will sell it.

Anybody who would buy a 360 for it already has, so they can only make significantly more money by selling it to Sony and re-releasing it on PS3 as well.

It's not moving consoles any more.

The first one for the 360 was published by Microsoft Game Studios. The PC port was done by EA as will any future titles. I dont think its out of the realm of possibilities that it could be ported to the PS3

Maybe M$ will sell it.
Its not Microsft's to sell. EA already bought the studio that developed it and can do with the series as they please.

The publishing rights of the first game went to EA along with all the other rights concerning Mass Effect. Microsoft only publishes the Xbox 360 version of the game.

The PC version of the game is published by EA and it's kinda expected that they will publish the PS3 version as well. Especially since they get most of their revenue from the PS3 and PC.

Oh yea good points. EA are all about the money, it probably will find it's way to all consoles, well apart from the Wii :hehe:

Microsoft can't sell what they don't own. Mass Effect was owned by BioWare. VG Holding Corp, which owned BioWare and Pandemic, was bought by Electronic Arts. Therefore everything owned by BioWare such as Jade Empire, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect is now owned by Electronic Arts.

Electronic Arts and Microsoft already had discussions concerning BioWare's publishing deal with Microsoft which resulted in EA obtaining the publishing rights to the first Mass Effect game.

Agreed.

Has any of you guys played it all the way through? It really is one of, if not THE best game i've ever played. Each play through really is different.

I only played a small bit of it on the PC. Didnt really have time to get into it. I did like the speech system

Yea it isn't one of them games you can just pick up and play. You need a few solid hours to really get into it.

thats always been my problem with RPGs bc they suck so much of my time. I played FF XII from Nov 2006 till March 2007 and only that. I was the same way with FFX. I knew I wasnt going to have that type of time to invest in Mass Efect (especially with MGS4 about to hit )so I passed it over.

Microsoft makes the game! No way will they allow it to be sent to SONY. Sony would have to send of God of War III or something.

Itd be best if it did.

Itd hurt the 360...but not by that much bc they've had...what, a 2 year or 3 head start. It'll expand ME's fanbase...the game is too good to be missed.

Microsoft will probably get exclusive DLC....which I guess would balance things for Microsoft I guess.

Microsoft did not make Mass Effect. BioWare did and the rights to Mass Effect belonged to BioWare. Microsoft just had a publishing agreement with BioWare for the Mass Effect trilogy.

Then Electronic Arts bought VG Holding Corp which owned BioWare. Electronic Arts and Microsoft met and the end result was Electronic Arts taking over everything concerning Mass Effect, including the publishing rights to the first game. Mass Effect was then shortly released on the PC published by Electronic Arts, not Microsoft.

If Electronic Arts wants to port Mass Effect to the PlayStation 3, they can because they own Mass Effect. It isn't at all like God of War III which is owned by Sony because the series was created by SCE Studios Santa Monica, which is a part of SCE Worldwide Studios, which is owned by Sony Computer Entertainment, which is a subsidiary of Sony.

This whole series will go to the PS3, its all owned by EA and EA has never been one to turn down more money. The rest of the ME series will come out on both platforms and both games will have features that were included in the first Mass Effect but wont be included in the 2nd. You will be forced to pay for those features. For instance i can see EA making the ability to planet hop a $10 DLC

Couldn't care less personally. I hate those kinds of games.

I'd personally love for ME to find its way onto PS3 in the future. The PS3 needs more RPGs.

I'd still say it's chances are 50/50 at this point.

I don't see a same date release, but a port isn't out of the question.

Consider that the 2nd game begins based on how you played the first game.

Now unless they go the Star Wars Knights of the Republic 2 route (they might have to for people who skipped it on the 360 the first time but wanted to try the sequel) then you'd have to have the first game ported first.

More than likely ME2 would be released for Holiday 2009, which means the first port would need to be finished any day now so as to not cannibalize sales of ME2 if it's released on the same date. Without any real substantial info about it, it seems pretty unlikely at this point.

So, more than likely you'd see ME1 for PS3 and ME2 for 360 for Holiday 2009, with ME2 for PS3 coming 6 months or so after that. ME3 would be a same release date if so.

Of course, this could all be moot if they had a contract in place like MGS4 did. Reach a certain number of sales and exclusivity is guaranteed. Without knowing any of these details, it's pretty pointless to speculate.

Yes, EA loves money. The promised ME2 DLC hasn't come (yet?) which seems strange given EA's attitude to money and DLC. So, unless they scrapped it in favor of putting those teams on a PS3 port, then I don't see why they haven't released the DLC.

So I'm not so sure the EA is all about money thing holds up well.

Again, who knows at this point?

What?!?! You think they would charge people to planet hop? That's the main part of the game! They would never, ever get away with that. I would be paying out $100 everytime I played it.
