Russell Crowe IS Jor-El

Crowe tweets that he's been working out.

Awesome, I was hoping for him to shape up for the film. I don't expect him to appear as he did in Gladiator, but I hope that he'll be able to achieve a healthy appearance. [It would be more than awesome for him to build himself up like in Gladiator though]

he won't be able to get back to Gladiator form...he couldn't even do it for Robin Hood.

Too bad. I'm ok with him looking like this,

As long as he doesn't look like this,

i was simply pointing out that he wasn't as slim or trim as he was in Gladiator...

haha agreed!

Well a bearded hippie Jor-El could certainly be a fresh take on things. ;)

A workout will do him some good, he's got a bit out of shape recently. If Snyder is pursuing any kind of story which implies Kryptonians are in peak physical condition regardless of red or yellow sun, Crowe will need to sharpen up lol

Either that or they conceal his figure with plenty of loose clothing.

I don't think Crowe's been in good shape since he did Body of Lies.

Found this over at the IMDB-boards - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0770828/board/thread/184516501

If true it almost sounds like he's aiming for the lead role. Plus, I never thought Crowe was such a Twitter-****e or whatever he's using. Or that he gave a poop about if fans where actually interested in hearing about his doings. Maybe he's just a bit desperate.

It doesn't really sound like him does it?

I dunno, I don't have any feelings about him getting in shape for the role. Jor-el has never been portrayed as fat, so obviously he has to be in fairly good shape. But unless Snyder is reinventing Krypton as a Spartan type society in which they all walk around topless... it really doesn't matter all that much to me.

His account is officially certified, so I'm guessing it is in fact him.

makes me wonder if they're saving his scenes for later in filming to give him time to cut some weight. if so, more power to them. we've had a plump Jor-El for 30 years. i'd like to see a Jor-El that's somewhat slim.

I've always thought of Jor-El as an older version of Superman, so yes please - a healthy fit-looking Crowe for Jor-El.

I can imagine Jor-El being more active, fighting for his beliefs and doing what he can against the Council and Zod etc.

Yep, I can definitely see Jor-El in the front of a rebellion, against Zod maybe, possibly involving a Star Wars-like battle of some sorts.
I guess the outcome is a no-brainer, especially when one part refuses to kneel. :cwink:

"Man of Steel" Co-Star Russell Crowe Spotted in Naperville?

Saturday, Jun 25, 2011 | Updated 2:54 PM

There's may be a "Gladiator" in Chicagoland.

Aussie actor Russell Crowe has been spotted by several people this last week in Naperville, the Chicago Sun-Times reported this week.

Crowe has been a regular a Whole Foods Market on 75th Street, and Triblocal Naperville has placed him at Naperville's downtown Starbucks and Sullivan's Steakhouse.

Crowe will play Jor-El, Superman's biological father, in the upcoming franchise reboot "Man of Steel," filming this summer in Plano and Chicago. Naperville's Depaul University campus held casting tryouts for the new film a week ago, with a turnout of hundreds of people.

In an interview with australia's Daily Telegraph, his wife told the press that they were in Chicago and that her husband was working out to get in shape.

Crowe's Twitter account has made suggestive comments to his presence in the Chicago area. Crowe alluded to dark clouds and thunder around the time of last week's storm in Chicago, and his Twitter read on Friday, "I'm a long way from home, yet."

I'm curious to know what scenes they're actually shooting in Illinois, if Crowe is there. Also, are they only shooting interiors in Vancouver?

I'm really hoping that they're able to create some type of sequence in regards to Jor el and Lara sending Superman off to Earth that'll really capture the several layers of tones going into that scene (tragic, mixed with a small uplifting hope for a better future in regards to their son's life).

I mean so far, I haven't seen any live action scene where I felt sad for Jor el and Lara sending their son away. The only scene/series that really capitalized on the emotions going through that scene imho has been the one shown in S:TAS.

I think STM did fine in that regard.

Well in regards to the destruction of Krypton and the horror of seeing a entire world lost, yes, imho, they did exceptionally well in that regard.

However, when it comes to Jor-el and Lara's final moments with Kal-el..Idk, I just can't feel the emotion from it like I can with the scene in S:TAS.

The problem is we usually don't get to know either Jor-El or Lara, by the time they send him off. STAS worked so well because you're actually there with him as he struggles to save his planet and family.

Starting off a scene with their deaths isn't ideal.

Well; if they're able to at least capture the tragedy and sadness of two parents having to give up and send their child to a place unknown in order to save his life, then that should suffice somewhat if they're unable to develop the amount of time exploring their characters as individuals.

I'm not convinced it would carry that much dramatic weight. It's too small of a timeframe to have us invested in them. With Crowe on board and his supposed workout regime, I think it leads credence to the notion that Jor-El will have a far bigger role than previous incarnations.

Speaking of which, I hope this will be the first live action Superman film where the actor playing Superman gets top billing in the opening credits this time around instead of the actor playing his father.lol

One of the fathers will get top billing. Henry is not know enough.
