Will we see Jor-El in any kind of fighting/action sequence?

It's something I've been wanting to see on film. Is it possible? Could this be why he (Crowe) is getting into shape???

Jor-El. In a fight with a villain, fighting for Kal-El, something. If Crowe's role is limited to just blabbering dialogue then I'll fall asleep. Instead, I'd love to see a Jor-El that gets away from Krypton and can actually kick some @$$! This has EPIC written all over it!
:woot:

Thoughts?

Here's my dream Jor-El sequence...

Jor-El, wearing the traditional House of EL armor, fights General Zod almost to the death. He beats Zod and banishes him to the Zone. The House of EL Armor is what we will come to know as the Superman suit.

That's actually pretty damn great.

to be perfectly honest, I want the prologue/background to be as minimized as possible. In STM, it was over an hour 'til we really see superman. 1/2 an hour spent on krypton. It's too much IMO

I feel like there is too much emphasis put on this background. I understand that because Zod is in the film, there needs to be some introduction, but I don't want to spend more than 5-10 minutes on Krypton for a 2 1/2 hour movie (not 1/2 an hour like in STM). IMO, the only info we need to know about Krypton is that it went boom, and Jor'el was the only mofo out there to put his baby in a rocket, and send him to earth.

Zod obviously complicates this a little, but his backstory/history could be told in a very short flashback.

And I don't want to see Jor'el fighting anything. Running for his life maybe, like in Superman: TAS, but not fighting.

Maybe the emphasis on Superman's background is because his background is part of what makes the character unique? It's not as if you can just replace it with Captain America's super soldier serum origin or Spider-Man's radioactive spider origin. I like seeing the origin and how it relates to the present. There's a lot of potential that hasn't been tapped yet, I'd say. For one, I'd like to know a little bit about how Kryptonians came to have their abilities.

see I disagree, the essence of the story is that he is an orphan. Where he comes from + the yellow sun give him his powers. That's it, nothing more. Everything else is just a waste of the actual superman part of the movie.

but as I said, because Zod is included, there needs to be a little explanation.

I'd much rather see a superman movie that starts with the crash on Earth, leaving the kryptonian origin as a mystery (ie. Clark Kent doesn't know he is Kal'el of Krypton until well after he has become Superman. He knows only what the Kents are able to tell him: that he arrived in a space ship and they took him in). In relation to this movie, I think it would be cool, if Zod builds the fortress of solitude and explains the origin to Superman.

I couldn't disagree more. I want the Batman Begins-like origin story where invest in who this guy and what brought him to this point. Superman is not just the guy in the costume, he's that hero persona, a man, and an orphaned alien. I want to see that character, not rush into him putting on the cape. I want to care and understand what drives him and understand what happened to get him to the decision of becoming Superman. Just like Birthright. How many issues was it before we even saw him in the suit? I don't remember exactly and I don't care, because I cared about the man under the suit and the journey, the arc he took, not when he put it on.

More on topic, I think Jor-El fight Zod in act I would be a great, quick way to establish their history. It'll show us what kind of men they both are and could play directly into how Zod is motivated when encounters the son of Jor-El. I don't want a lame-ass Green Lantern style prologue where I get told everything. Damn it, show me!

I agree, but not about the krypton stuff. His 'Smallville' prologue is more important. That's what makes him who he is, krypton only defines what he is.

Watching Jor-El fighting is like watching Sherlock Holmes wrestling. It's been done, I'd abhor it but I'd feel forced to accept it.

If Zod is going to work as a character, Krypton has to play a part. We have to understand that.

Smallville is important, but like Birthright did, he yearns to know who he is. I can't help but think they're going to play up that angle, and if they do, his wanting to know where he came from is as important as Ma and Pa Kent. If Zod can tempt him with his true heritage, that heritage has to mean something for the audience.

Russel Crowe has fought 'round the world, now he must fight 'round the galaxy.

I've suggested before that seing Jor-El involved in some sort of battle would be a nice dramatic and likely addition. Not necessarily a one-on-one brawl with Zod, but more a battle leading a smaller army maybe. And no superpowers either, just freaky and possibly non-leathal weapons.
Then getting Crowe would definitely make sense, and that would also lead to a more direct and agressive Superman.

I agree, as I said in my earlier posts, with Zod involved, there is no way around it. That being said, it would be nice to have a skewed origin delivered by Zod, obviously painting himself as a protagonist, with supes finding out as the movie progresses that Jor'el was the true protagonist on Krypton etc.
