Russell Crowe IS Jor-El

Green makes Jor-El look like a Martian or like Lex Luthor. With modern printing, why can't they use more tertiary colors or different combinations? The DCnu costume looks insect-like. I still haven't seen a Jor-El costume I'm completely in love with.

Still don't know the context of Jor-El's suit in MOS so it's hard to judge, but the shoulder armor does look odd as it is.

Green is Jor-El's color. White looks like the Brando version, blue makes him look too much like Superman. Green works because it's similar enough to blue to make a connection but different enough that it stands out. Anything's better than black, that's for certain.

Silver Age costume is by far the best but I love the DCnU costume.

I agree in that I think green is the best colour and Jor-El should hear a headband and have some form of planet/sun device on his chest. Those are design aspects that are so easy to incorporate into any costume design and would be a nice homage to his classic depictions. Headbands are a timeless scifi fashion style. However, I disagree about the need for a pulp science fiction aesthetic for Krypton. I think it's a tough sell to general audience. The modern Flash Gordon show was crap and looked utterly unbelievable. I think it is more in line with what Siegel and Shuster did originally to base Kryptonian fashion and design on current science fiction aesthetics. They borrowed from culturally accepted projections of scientific advancement and the Snyder film should do the same.

It might have been you or others who mentioned the recent Star Trek film as an example of retro styling done well, but I think people must be reminded that the 2009 Star Trek film incorporated an awful lot of modern styling in order to update the original designs. Apple style bridge anyone?

The DCnU Jor-El costume is a great example:

What's interesting about the new DCnU costume that it's actually a bit similar to Jor El's costume in MOS. Notice how the suit worn underneath, although green, is the same one worn by the DCnU Superman. Even the belt is the same.

And that sort of echoes what's being done with the MOS costumes shared by father and son. Underneath the medieval shoulder pads, etc., Jor El's costume basically mirrors that of his son's.

Best Jor-El costume I have ever seen was in Superman TAS. But so far I am just happy that they seem to have finally thrown out the Marlon Brando Jor-El. I don't understand why it appears he is wearing some kind of military uniform when he is supposed to be a scientist. Also doesn't that red cape look like a Superman replica, like Supes was copying his father.

Why not? Like I said in another thread, if my dad died to save me from Armageddon, I'd at least wear his baseball cap in tribute. If this is a reboot, there needs to be a reason for why he wears that suit. His momma liking circus strongmen and sewing it for him is hopelessly outdated. Wearing the garb of his people and his family makes sense to me. And it looks like it's not just tribute, it's literally Kryptonian clothing. It's the little details like this that make adaptations potentially worthwhile and fun.

Knowing about his Kryptonian heritage and wearing the suit in remembrance in them is fine. I have just stated before that "I" personally would like most of the things about Superman and that lead him to become Superman to be his own ideas, not seeing something his dad wore and flying with it. It just takes some of the beauty away from the story IMO.
Superman has always wore his father's "baseball cap" as you call it by putting that huge \S/ on his chest which is his family's symbol.

Well one thing is for sure Zod's gear will be a CGI version of armor similar to what Jor El is sporting, pointing more and more towards the black and red Iron Man like suite he sported in the comics at one point.... It will be interesting to see if they go with a full helmut with face plate.

15km bike ride, umpteen hours fighting Michael Shannon. He's very hard to put down.
@alanthomasdoyle Stay around for the Saturday. That really is the only day I can guarantee you any time . I'm trying to save a planet here.
@HMack3 Hard to tell who wins, we are still fighting tomorrow.
@alanthomasdoyle Alas, I'm no superhero.Just related to one.

Lol I'm just thinking.....won't he get in trouble talking about what he's doing via twitter? I mean I feel like hes the only one spilling beans lol

I think Nolan & Snyder are giving us a head-fake with all this Zod business. I think it's gonna be Brainiac.

I'm sure being that vague is fine. Just creates excitement, gets people talking :)

You're gonna end up disappointed, buddy.

I'm not saying I am rooting for my hypothesis, just a vibe I am getting. Same thing for the Batman flick, I don't think Bane is the main villain in that one either.

With all this fighting on Krypton, this makes me wonder if Snyder is going to go the route of having Zod & Jor-El have superpowers on Krypton while they fight, just to make it more of an action pack epic battle. The majority of the general public (main audience) don't know that superpowers don't exist on Krypton, so Zac by all means could get away with it.

If Snyder does go in this direction I see many fanboys of the comics ripping a new one into snyder.

:)

Is it normal to film movies this way? I always assumed the Krypton stuff would all be filmed on a set in Hollywood or somewhere and not wherever the location filming happens to be.

I think it's just for convenience. "Since we're going to be here anyway, why not build the sets here too?"
