Ryan Reynolds has landed the coveted role of “Green Lantern,” getting the starring role in Warner Bros.' live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.
Martin Campbell will direct. The studio is still working on the picture’s budget, but production is expected to begin in January.
The news caps off a memorable summer for Reynolds, who played Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” a performance that prompted Fox to begin development on a spinoff film. Reynolds followed that by starring opposite Sandra Bullock in the romantic comedy “The Proposal,” which crossed the $100 million mark this week.
Warners and Campbell chose Reynolds, who vied for the superhero role along with “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. The momentum built for Reynolds in the last week, as he was the only actor whose option was extended.
Greg Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Donald DeLine will produce with Berlanti. Reynolds’ reps at UTA are working out his deal.
The actor will next star in “Buried,” a dark indie drama that will begin filming shortly in Barcelona with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes. Reynolds will play a civilian contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq and awakes in a coffin, struggling against time to coordinate a rescue even though he doesn’t know where he’s buried in the desert.

I knew if I sat in front of my computer for 4 hours straight something cool would happen.

Wow. I did not expect this at all. I suppose this is a good choice, though.

Better than those Justin Timberlake rumors I heard about.

Lame... he should have stayed with Marvel. I could see Deadpool getting canned if GL is a hit and becomes a franchise.

WB f's up again. Is it so hard to expand their search for an actor for GL other than someone fanboys seem to favor for every role?

He won't be playing Deadpool.

He could still do Deadpool.

Although Fox would probably **** it up anyway.

meh....

Some thread should add a poll is ppl agree with the casting choice

Deadpool getting canned is actually a plus, IMO. After what FOX just pulled with XO:W, do you really want another movie from them? I sure don't.

Why should he have stayed with Marvel movies?

again, I think that he's doing it because as if RIGHT NOW, Deadpool is as active as X-Mens Origins: Magneto . Not saying too much.

And it's Fox, so perhaps Ryan's dealing with their politics first hand.

Yeah this pick seems completely uninspired and I'm not really thrilled about it at all.

Expect for Reynolds to play Reynolds. Hal Jordan won't be present in the film.

With that said at least he resembles Hal and has the body to go along with it. Even if he wasn't my preferred actor it could have been far far worse (Leto).

I like this choice to be honest. I think Reynolds can deliver the perfect balance of comedy and also handle the action.

Wow, there you go.

Would have preferred Cooper, but I've got nothing against Ryan Reynolds. My main problem was that he's already been in other superhero movies, but as an actor he fits the Hal Jordan mould respectably enough.

Really, I'm just happy they cast SOMEONE, and we can move forward with this freakin' film AT LAST.

I agree with Showtime... Deadpool's prospects are not looking good right now. DC fans can rejoice I guess. Marvel finally takes a blow from DC.

Deadpool is way in the pre-production stage. Green Lantern will be shooting relatively soon. Who says Ryan Reynolds can't play both characters?

YES!

No Timberlake! :woot:

And my N° 1 choice was actually chosen!

I'm thrilled. I'm definetly thrilled.

Now, they only have to lay out the rest of the cast! :cwink:

WB would have to ok it. It will be in his contract, just like it was in Rouths.
