This is nothing more than emotional black mail. Women's rights are about to get flushed down the crapper.

Yes. Make the disadvantaged young woman feel even more terrible for having to abort their baby. That should change her mind.

Take it, look at it, laught at it, throw it in the doctor's face and tell them to hurry it up.

I want to be outraged at this - but I can't seem to.

I mean if you are going to get an abortion, aren't you already under the mind set that whatever bundle of cells you have in there isn't human life anyway? Why should a picture change that belief?

Because this law is counting on the women's hormones getting in the way of their rational thoughts. This is an attempt to stop abortion.

If a woman is so unsure with the decision that a simply picture can sway them - maybe they should think twice. I mean think of the mental anguish that could be caused by them second guessing themself AFTER they had the abortion? If this makes sure they want to go through with it, more power to them.

Do you realize how irrational women act when they're pregnant? They're nothing but hormones during that nine months. This law is taking advantage of that fact. This is one step above trying to ban abortion.

Exactly and that's the entire point of the law. Only to make those who are already having second thoughts to re-examine the issue a second time. I don't really agree with the law, but I don't think its completely pointless either.

And I've been told by several people that it only requires them to have an ultrasound, I've never heard they are forced to look at it.

Not in the first trimester.

Exactly. I mean if I truly felt that women were being unfairly treated for having an abortion - I would be all with the call for arms. But again, I don't see it being a big problem. Its a bit hokey sure, but not evil or unfair by any means.

If they're already hormonal, then chances are they've grown attached to the baby anyway.

You know what bothers me about abortions? Men go on and on about women's rights, but they don't even stop to think of theirs.

I mean, if a woman wants to abort the baby and the father would gladly raise the child on his on, it doesn't matter. Its up to the woman. I don't think that's entirely fair.

You'd be amazed how fast you bond with a baby. So if that isn't already affecting them, the picture won't either.

The man isn't the one that's going to carry the baby to term. All he did was have sex with her. I would have no say in it in my opinion.

Bull ****, if that were true all of the neo-con groups wouldn't be running around insisting that mothers see an ultrasound of their fetus.

As Kritish said, it is purely emotional black mail. It's an attempt on the government's part to guilt women out of abortion. It's their decision, let them make it without the undue influence.

You ever been pregnant? Didn't think so. If the hormones rushing through your body don't convince you that you love your child within the first few weeks, a picture won't either. If a woman is set on having an abortion, chances are she's either already made a concrete decision, even if it was a hard one, or she doesn't care for the fetus at all. Either way, an ultrasound picture that shows a little peanut shaped thing shouldn't change their mind.

That's not necessarily the case. Maybe if it was a one night stand, but even then, if the father is willing to care for the child and even pay for all the expenses, I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed that chance under reasonable circumstances.

I dunno about that. I mean it really isn't fair at all, but what is the likelihood the woman would forfeit her rights as a parent and have the child raised by the father? Generally women are given precedence when it comes to child-rearing anyway, so she could change her mind when she wanted to and skip out on the dad.

The courts would probably decide who was the better caregiver and set up visitation rights or something, assuming they weren't a couple. Either way the baby would have a home so what's the point in aborting it?

Most of the time it's dumb ass boyfriends and one night stands that cause abortions. The woman has to carry that damn thing while the dude just shoots a few milileters of semen into a vagina.
