San Diego Comic-Con 2010!

There's a real fear that if LA gets it, the studios will get power over everything.

Las Vegas is bidding for it as well. They certainly have the size (and having just come back from there, I can attest that they need the business). But I think the Vegas nightlife would conflict with the nature of the Con.

Well for me, I wouldn't really care either way even though LA would mean I would not have to take a connecting flight.

It would shave a couple of hours off my drive. But it's probably a lot easier to get around San Diego.

Having been to both San Diego and Los Angeles, I must say I prefer San Diego.

So guys I was wondering what is it like at comic con? DO I need to provide outside entertainment during the day or is it the schedule pretty full during the convention?

Also can I get by without a car there?

Since you live so close, it's probably at least worth going Thursday. That way you can get a feel for what it's like. I know I wish I had gone Thursday last time because I missed great panels like Psych, Burn Notice, and Doctor Who.

And Tron 2.... we missed Tron 2 on Thursday...

Sadly, I was only able to get tickets to Thursday and Sunday, but by damn I WILL be there

The ticket will have your name on it, and you have to wear it on you as a badge or around your neck at all times. But if you can find someone who can pretend to be you that day, sure.

I really can't wait for Comic-Con this year. We'll probably get the first trailers for Green Lantern, Thor maybe even Captain America. And we could get to see the TV pilot of The Walking Dead.

So anyone know of a way to get a 4-day pass?

There isn't. All the 4-day passes are gone, and they're non-transferable. Even the Director of Marketing and Public Relations of the Con has said once they're sold out, you can't get them.

He did say they may be giving out free passes in radio contests/giveaways for those in the LA/San Diego areas, but there's no way to buy one.

The only thing I can think of would be to try volunteering at the event every day. If you get selected, you'd be spending a large part of each day working, but you would get some time off, and would be able to attend the event every day.

I can't wait for July to attend this thing. It will be a very new experience for me.

Be sure you bring a camera, with lot's of spare batteries. Recharging stations are too few and far between.

Not that it mattered to me last year. I borrowed my sister's camera, and she neglected to give me the recharger. Thankfully I had just enough juice to get those pictures of Leonard Nimoy and Stan Lee.

There's a volunteer section on the comic-con website. But volunteering has been closed for this year.

It's a pretty good deal if you can get it. You work the Con for a few hours each day, then you get to attend the rest of the day for free. I think you work out a schedule so you get to see the things you want to see the most. MadRhapsody is doing it this year, she could give you the details.
