Sandman

Sandman movie? Sweet. JGL? Very cool. David Goyer? GO AWAY! I'm glad Gaiman is involved though.

#GOAWAYGOYER!

Other than that I'm super excited. I wanted JGL for Jackie Estacado but this fits him more anyway.

That said, in terms of his directoral chops, I think an outside the box choice like JGL may be what this film needs. I don't think necessarily getting a seasoned director will do this film any good. JGL is probably a long time fan and had a specific vision and pitch for it that the studio liked, and given he's so raw, getting someone who isn't stuck in their ways and everyone knows everything about in terms of their directing techniques may be a good thing for this.

Umm, according to what I read, Goyer PITCHED the story, but the studio wants another writer to do the script. So that would mean Goyer isn't the screenwriter for this

Ah well, that's good news. :)

I'm so excited for this. JGL wasn't my first pick for Morpheus, but he's one of my favorite actors and I'm sure he'll surprise everyone. Can't wait for this, this is a dream come true. One of the best comics ever

Goyer is their Whedon, more or less. He has a hand in everything but it's not like he's going to write everything.

Yeah, I said whenever they made The Darkness he had to be Jackie. He's not as buff as the character but all of those Top Cow dudes look like that.

When I was watching the previews to Don Jon I was pretty much sold he would and still would be the perfect Jackie. Maybe he can direct and star in that too. :o

I can't believe this is happening (though I won't truly believe it until I'm sitting in the theater). I don't know if I should feel excitement or dread.

You should feel drexcitement.

I love, love, love Sandman. I would have preferred an HBO series, but I just hope this is good.

I think Sandman would've been great if it became a BBC series much like Sherlock and Doctor Who, but at least it's not on CW.

I honestly can't see a tv series working for Sandman. Quite simply, I don't see them getting the necessary budget to make a good looking adaptation of the comics.

I hope this actually comes together.

This could be one of the best movies DC has to offer.

Most of a director's work lies in getting good collaborators and working well with them. We know the names of auteur directors (as well as the take-charge ones like Cameron), but what they do is not required of the job description. Considering what we know of JGL's attitude about collaboration with HitRecord, I think he could do it and not go Shyamalan-on-a-big-budget with it. And in terms of directors making jumps from tiny budgets to big budget, not only Nolan did it, but the Wachowskis too. All the Ws were armed with was a powerful vision - they made Bound to prove they could direct at all, then they were off to the races. So it isn't the first time WB has taken a chance.

The worst that might happen is a well-intentioned misfire like Superman Returns (IMO), but hopefully with Gaiman involved, there's less chance of that happening.

Watch HBO.

It's a little bit of an out there choice but I really reckon it will work out. Congrats to jgl!

I wonder who they will choose to play death? I reckon Jenna Louise Colman would be great. She's so sweet and a nice actor and she would just be one of those people you would really like to meet to help you out after the trauma of death.

Wow exciting news! A Sandman movie finally huh? With the ultra talented JGL starring and directing! Plus Gaiman and Goyer will be working on the story and screenplays respectively.

Impressive! I have been waiting for a Sandman movie for a looooong time. Glad to see the WB's/DCE hire this type of talent to get this project going.

JGL, Goyer and Gaiman? This has the potential to be really good!

I likey!!

I agree! The ultra talented JGL working with the talents of Gaiman and Goyer on Gaimans baby Sandman? Imagine this Sandman film like the original The Crow film and the Constantine movie....but BETTER!

Yeah baby! :applaud

Actually....Goyers role now is more of a hybrid of Whedon and Feige at Marvel. I don't mind that role for Goyer at all.

Yeah, seems like he is a really smart/creative/talented dude just has trouble writing dialogue/putting a script together. He got a Sandman movie off the ground, gotta give him credit for that.

Hope he can get more characters off the ground and oversee projects working with talented directors, producers, and writers.

He is about to get a lot of experience in the next 2-3 years. Since he is almost surely going to be the one writing a Justice League script, it makes me hopeful this experience is going lead to an epic Justice League movie. (which is something I have wanted for a long time and need it to be good lol)

People are saying he's not gaunt or skinny enough for the role but once they throw all that Crow-like makeup and CG effect on his ass who can say.
