Sandman

I agree! The ultra talented JGL working with the talents of Gaiman and Goyer on Gaimans baby Sandman? Imagine this Sandman film like the original The Crow film and the Constantine movie....but BETTER!

Yeah baby! :applaud

Isn't the original Crow film considered a masterpiece?

Going through the comics myself and while the format might lend itself better on TV than a series of films I think with the right creative team, they might crack this, hopefully by striking a balance between appealing to the general audience and keeping the tone of the comics. I'm hoping for the best.

I think it should be pretty manageable to make a first film combining "Preludes & Nocturnes" and "The Doll's House." It's just going to get tricky adapting the rest of the series, when the more plot-driven structure of the early storylines gives way to a more free-flowing, episodic structure that travels back and forth through time.

I think you could probably do the whole saga justice with a 4-film series...

PART 1: As mentioned above, combine "Preludes & Nocturnes" and "The Doll's House" into a singles Tory about Dream trying to reclaim his kingdom by gathering his totems of power and rounding up the absentee dreams which are loose in our world.

PART 2: You could probably make up a compelling film combining "Season of Mists" and "A Game of You", where you can explain Dream's absence through the events of "A Game of You" with him being kept occupied with his confrontation with Lucifer and it's aftermath from "Seasons of Mists."

PART 3: An adaptation of "Brief Lives", which would be an ideal storyline for working in some of the more acclaimed "vignettes from past eras" oneshots from the course of the series, including one of my personal favourites: "Men of Good Fortune", where every 100 years Dream meets up in a pub with an immortal human.

PART 4: The big finale, which I'd do as an adaptation of "The Kindly Ones", with "The Wake" added at the end as an epilogue.

Of course, looking up at that structure I laid out above, one problem could be that Part 3 - which would likely be my personal favourite part, given how "Brief Lives" is my favourite Sandman storyline - would be a really hard sell as a big-budget blockbuster. There's no real villain, for one: part 1 would have The Corinthian, part 2 would have Lucifer, and part 4 would have The Kindly Ones, but there's no antagonist as such in the "Brief Lives" storyline, it's a lot more about reconciliation than conflict. Are people going to go to the cinema in droves to see our heroes go on a road trip across America and reminisce on family, friendship and what it means to be alive?

Yeah It's not a masterpiece but it is above the all the Spider-Man films for me TBH.

Another tweet from JGL:

Just to clarify, folks. I've signed on as a producer on Sandman. The rest remains to be seen. Delighted you guys are excited. I am too!

The TV series idea was a much better plan. This has so much potential to turn into a disaster.

Cable wouldn't compromise but can't afford it, but network tv could afford it but would compromise. Movie is the only route to go if they want to bring it to life, unless they did a cartoon.

People are saying he's not gaunt or skinny enough for the role but once they throw all that Crow-like makeup and CG effect on his ass who can say.
Uhh have they seen any of his movies besides TDKR and Don Jon? He had to work crazy hard to bulk up for those - he's a naturally small-framed dude.

I guess we'll see how the rest of the production goes, considering his most recent tweet. Maybe Cumberbatch will still get to be Death. :cwink:

HBO has a much bigger budget than network tv. Look what they spend on GAME OF THRONES. Heck, they spent about $100 million on a season of ROME.

Frankly, I think people overestimate the cost of a SANDMAN series. It's not a series of explosions and larger than life battles with a cast of thousands. A lot of SANDMAN is rather small scale. "The Sound of Her Wings" is something any show is capable of producing. "Preludes and Nocturnes" isn't that big a story. Nor is "A Doll's House". "Brief Lives" is basically a road trip. One of the biggest setpieces of "Preludes and Nocturnes" is a word game.

Obviously "Season of Mists" and "A Game of You" are bigger scale, as well as some of the one offs, but much of SANDMAN is rather intimate.

Love Sandman, JGL & Gaiman. I really hope this works out. Excited for this!

BUT GUYS GUYS DEVIN FARACI AND OTHER BLOG TROLLS SAID IT COULD NEVER WORK SO THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN TRY.

F*** the haters. I hope JGL & Co. knock this out of the park. There's so much potential for an amazing movie series.

But he's already death...and fire :o

Hes not directing and Goyer isnt writing. No story here. That someone is beginning to develop a potential Sandman movie isn't really news.

This might be a stupid question but can someone tell me a little bit about Morpheus/Sandman? I really can't find that much about him and i've never read a sandman comic but I kinda want to know a little bit about him to see if I'd like him.

Possibly his powers? I know he does something with dreams or something but I dont even know if he's a Hero, Villain, Neither? Who he works with or his enemies or something. Thanks a lot for anyone who does. Im not asking for a page just please like a little summary or something?

That information was available from the start. Consider reading before you go on yet another WB tirade.
