Despite claims from producer Walter Parkes that Scarlett Johansson wasn't a big enough star to open THE ISLAND it seems like everyone wants a piece of the actress (and not like that you perv). The actress is in talks to star in another film, this time the Weinstein adaptation of THE NANNY DIARIES. The film, originally set up at Miramax, follows a woman hired to care for the neglected four-year-old of a pampered wife and her absentee husband. In addition to that film, Johansson has BORGIA with Colin Farrell, the recently announced AMAZON and THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY on her plate. She recently wrapped filming on THE BLACK DAHLIA, has MATCH POINT on the way later this year and is currently filming SCOOP for Woody Allen. Not to bad for a girl whose not big enough for a Michael Bay action film. NANNY was written by Shari Springer-Berman and Robert Pulcini (AMERICAN SPLENDOR) and is based on the novel by Emma McLaughlin. No telling yet which of these films will head into production first.

The Weinstein Company has added some extra actors to The Nanny Diaries.

The film already has Scarlett Johansson as a working-class girl from New Jersey who gets a job working with the children of a wealthy New York family.

Now she knows who she’ll be dealing with: Paul Giamatti will play the overbearing father of the brood, with Donna Murphy and Fantastic Four’s Chris Evans – who plays her love interest – also joining the cast.

American Splendor’s Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman are directing. Hhm… Wonder how they got Paul Giamatti to sign on?

Pulcini ad Springr are directing? Sweet! I'm sold.

Walter Mitty? Is she going to play the overbearing wife? I can't really see that. And the only movie titled The Nanny Diaries I want to see her in is the one that plays on Spice. :o

Nice. Laura Linney is already signed to play the wife of Giametti's character.
The couple in the book are serious a-holes who really dont give a crap about their kid. It's really quite funny and sad at the same time. This could very well be a great role for Scarlett. Evans character is the couples next door neighbor who Scarlett falls for in a bad way.

April 13, 2006

Alicia Keys has been cast in director duo Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini's big screen adaptation of bestseller The Nanny Diaries for The Weinstein Company, says Variety.

The film stars Scarlett Johansson as a working-class woman from New Jersey who becomes a nanny to a wealthy Manhattan family. Keys takes on the role of Johansson's best friend.

Keys has just wrapped Joe Carnahan's Smokin' Aces, for Working Title and Universal. She stars opposite Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Don Cheadle and Peter Berg.

"Diaries" has already booked Chris Evans, Laura Linney, Paul Giamatti and Donna Murphy.

The film, which begins shooting in New York this month, is based on Nicola Kraus and Emma McLaughlin's popular satirical novel.
