Scorsese's The Irishman

I saw activity in this thread and thought a trailer dropped. I hope they don't push it back again.

Damn it, I want that trailer! But at the same time I'd rather he get the de-aging right.

Same! Must be pretty difficult to de-age Pesci, Pacino, De Niro, and Keitel 40 years!

Difficult indeed. But it says how great a director the man is that he is so focused on getting the ageing right.

I want it to be right too, but at the same time I'm like "hire Marvel's people and hurry up."

Producer Irwin Winkler talked about the film a few times recently to promote his book, "A Day in Movies". Pretty interesting that the first de-aging tests started mid-2015.

He starts talking about The Irishman at around 35:20-38:00. Says the cut he saw was around "three hours."

I am fairly concerned with what ILM is going to come up with here. The folks over at Lola effects use a very particular process for their deaging. It's actually a 2d process, more like digital painting. There's no 3d modeling and it takes less time. ILM uses much more of a 3d rendered head replacement process. It's great for stunt doubles but having seen their Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin face replacements I am concerned with how this will come out.

I can never not think about about De Niro won an Oscar for playing the younger version of a Marlon Brando character and how that casting wouldn't even happen today.

Yeah, I definitely think nobody does de-aging better than Lola!

I’ve said this before but since Scorsese admits there are issues with the de-aging, there is the possibility the film could be pushed back.

ILM and WETA are supposed to be the best at what they do though there are a lot of smaller houses that are doing it just as well nowadays. I feel like they may be using some improved technique after the criticisms they got about Rogue One.

Whatever happened to Scorsese’s SCTV documentary. I’m probably looking as forward to that as I am to this.

I like how that clip title could also double as a headline

Even if the de-aging is visually convincing, there’s gonna be a weird disconnect hearing older Pacino’s rough voice coming out of young Pacino’s face when we all know he didn’t sound like that at that age.
