Secret Avengers - Part 1

It's got a long way to go to catch up to Avengers Academy for me, but I'm now convinced it won't be a disaster, so that's a start. :)

Hey, I just noticed Hardman doesn't draw Beast like a cat. Yay!

Corp, you still seem to think Uncanny X-Force is the same as the previous X-Force. They are somewhat different and a hell of a lot better written than the last series. It's a terrific comic.

Do they still solve the majority of their problems by killing people? Because that's all I meant about their being a different sort of black ops squad from the Secret Avengers. It's fine for the Claw Club to murder people left and right. It's not fine for any Avengers team to do the same.

No way the Avengers should ever act like that.....but with Bendis you never know and Millar may get his hands on them again one day.

But back to X-Force, their first mission was to kill the new Apocalypse that Deadpool found out about. When they found out it was a young boy and Fantomex blew his brains out, it sent them on a downward spiral that has them all messed up, especially Warren. They are put in more life and death situations on a large scale as opposed to waltzing into a big room and dismembering 20 or 30 Purifiers. There's almost a vibe similar to The Authority, I don't know if anybody else would agree with me....

The Authority are all *****ebags to me. I'm still quite comfortable skipping Uncanny X-Force. But keep pitching it to me. Maybe the 12th or 40th time'll be the charm. ;)

It think that was the 12th time....or was that for ASM? Hmmmmmmm.......

Except while the Authority are a bunch of *****ebags, X-Force actually deals with the morality of what they do. Wolverine, Psylocke, Deadpool, and Fantomex are all haunted over killing the child Apocalypse.

It's also filled with brilliant scenes like this:

Not to mention the best written 616 Deadpool.I can't wait to see what happens after the Dark Angel saga.

Didn't read any of the Fear Itself stuff.Maybe I'll check it out in trade.

I pretend that Remender's Uncanny X-Force Deadpool is the only 616 Deadpool :o

Remender's Deadpool, while not a perfect man, is still a hero like the rest of X-Force. Way's Deadpool is just a horrible human being.

Way's Deadpool started off good and then just went off the rails.I hope he gets off the book soon.

Yeah, that was a great scene. That's why I can't wait for Remender to get his hands on O'Grady

You know what. **** it. I'm getting Secret Avengers again once Remender comes on board.

I don't understand what those scenes are supposed to convey. They're all a**holes. So they argue about killing a child afterward. Big f***ing deal. If they didn't suck, they wouldn't have killed the kid in the first place. I'm amazed any of them can justify that act to themselves when, just a little while ago, they were in a knock-down, drag-out fight to the death trying to stop other factions from murdering another kid who was prophesied to bring about disaster for mutantkind. :o

The scenes are well written, I'll grant you that much. But I have a fundamental disgust with characters like that. I doubt I'd ever be able to enjoy a comic centered on characters like those doing the kinds of things they do. Which was my main fear every time a new writer is assigned to Secret Avengers. It's bad enough seeing Wolverine as an Avenger. The idea of any Avengers--even a black ops squad like the Secret Avengers--killing children as if that'll do anything besides sink them down to their enemies' level makes me ill.

The point is to show that they feel terrible. They're trying to find ways to justify it to themselves but they can't. Deadpool even flat out says that it was wrong and shouldn't have happened. Hell, before Fantomex shot Apocalypse, X-Force was planning on taking him in and raising him instead of killing him once they realized that he was a child.

Yeah, but they don't do anything about it. You know who else does terrible things and then wrings their hands over it later? Child abusers, drug addicts, alcoholics, etc. At the end of the day, X-Force still tacitly agreed that it's fine to murder children by not stopping Fantomex or holding him accountable or even booting him off the team or anything. Not the kind of characters I'm interested in reading about.

Wolverine, Psylocke, Archangel, and Deadpool all agreed not to kill the child and instead let the X-Men raise him. Once they saw that Apocalypse was a child, they couldn't bring themselves to kill him. But Fantomex killed him out of nowhere, they had no time to stop him. Deadpool and Psylocke can't get over it. Wolverine is in denial about it. And Fantomex is guilty about it. They even did consider just ditching him in the Deathlok arc for what he did.

Morally conflicted characters who lean towards the good side is a bit different than the previous incarnation of X-Force where they killed without reservation or any bit of regret.

I'm not disputing that it's different. I'm just still not interested in that.

Rick Remender takes over Secret Avengers! Yes! This man is so great, Venom and Uncanny X-Force are top quality books and SA just keeps getting better and better, new line-up will also come out with Hawkeye becoming the Leader, sweet!

Clint Barton in Dubai. Oh that should be fun. :awesome:

Honestly though I think it's a great move to have Hawkeye lead his own team, particularly this one. I don't mind his new look as they're obviously capitalizing on his film look and he does look more agent like but I still think he could've worn a mask of sorts. It's it not like we were ever getting a man in a purple suit on screen anyway. :o

The change is welcome for me atleast. 2012 is gonna be a good year for Hawkeye.

I'd be okay if they just lost the silly purple shades, at least. Some artists draw him without them, which is nice. He's a superhero archer, not Bono. :o

Also more Secret Avengers goodness:

Man this is too good to be true, someone pinch me!
This is a great line up. I hope that is Scott Lang, but its probably not. Captain Brittan on the Avengers is awesome. I hope thats the android Human Torch. And I prefer Beast on the Avengers for some reason. Too bad Hawkeye is in his new costume. And so is Black Widow and Valkyrie and the Beast the only remaining original members?
