Well, if you're looking to make money off of the first appearance of the black costume, you may want to acquire the more VALUABLE first appearance of the black costume, Amazing Spider-Man #252.

Both ASM252 and SW8 are hailed as the first appearance of the symbiote, but, for some reason, ASM#252 is the more valuable of the two.

If you're looking to make a profit, I'd ask the guy at your LCS what he'd give you for it, then do an Ebay search and see what it's going for on there. Choose the highest valued option.

Selling it at a Convention may not be too profitable for you, as the buyer will only pay you as littl as possible for it, in hopes of selling it before the con is over at a higher price.

Months later Secret War #8 showed us it's origin and the first time Peter wore it. So STORY-WISE that was touted as it's first appearance.

But ASM #252 was the first time that the black costume appeared in any comic. So that's the true first appearance.

You might also want to check out ASM #258.

That's the issue where the black costume was revealed as being an Alien Symbiote and Peter seperates himself from it for the 1st time.

Along with ASM #252, Secret War #8 and Web Of Spider-man #1- that completes the important Alien Costume Saga issues.

Got all the symbiote ones. Plus 258 has bag-man so that's the best one by far. 252-258 I think will rise in price once the movie comes out. Also, Web of Spider-man #1 and #18 (Brock in shadows) probably will too.

Let's not forget PPTSSM and Marvel Team Up as also being published at the time. I believe it was PPTSSM #91 and MTU #141 that had the first appearances of the costume in those series. MTU and ASM came out the same week so they are tied for first appearance. The black costume in the movie is not like the costume in the comic. The movie version is the same as the red and blue in design only colored black.

This is true, but I guarantee the relevant issues will still go up in price...probably the first appearance of Venom, too, since from what I understand he will make a full appearance by film's end.

did they explain in ASM #252 where the suit came from or was it all a big mystery until secret wars came out?
seems strange that spidey just rocks up with some new threads with no origin story of the suit until later... how did they handle it?

How much do you guys think they'll go up? I doubt that much ASM #252 is 30 now, it'll probably go to 70 max if that. I think it'll only to 40 bucks. Venoms won't go up that high either I bet.

Has anyone seen the episode of Star Trek called "The Savage Curtain". It's a lot like Secret Wars. Kirk and Spock get transported to a different planet along with other famous historical figures in a battle of good vs. evil. It's an experiment by an alien race. It was on today. I thought it was quit interesting.

Very true regarding the value of those comics. No one mentioned the first appearance of Sandman in #4. That's already going up in price. When it comes to the value of comics dsthe big rules is CONDITION. The better the condition your black costume comics are, the more value they will have. Also you will notice on ebay at least-graded )CGC or PGX) always go for more than ungraded comics.Good luck.
