Hey guys and girls, I've been away from comics for about 2 years now and since November, I started getting DC comics. Thanks to the reboot.

But my one true love has always been Spider-Man and I want to start collecting again. Only problem is, when do I jump on board? I've heard Spider-Island has come to an end, so maybe now? And if so, which issue number?

Also been hearing Scarlet Spider is back (in new form) and will add that to my growing list.

So pretty much, I'm getting Scarlet Spider and Amazing Spider-Man, but not sure which issue to jump in from.

Anyway, thanks in advance and I'm so glad I'll soon be reading Spidey again.

The Amazing Spider-Man issue that just came out today is the start of a new storyline, last week's issue was the start of a crossover with Daredevil this week. I'd say this week is a good jumping on point.

You might want to check out the last couple issues of Venom (the whole series is good, though). This version of Venom is Flash Thompson working as an agent of the US Government. Post Spider-Island has seen Venom go rogue so I think it is a good time to jump on if you don't want to get the whole series. So far in this current turn we have seen some good character development of not only Flash, but of the new Jack-O-Lantern. Also the old question of what happened to Toxin halfway got answered in the issue from this week.

So pretty much this week I need to get my arse into gear and start collecting?

Thanks :)

Just added Amazing Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider to my current collection each month.

So I posted on another forum but I figured I could use more opinions especially since no one answered in the other forum.

I'm probably going to pick up a ton of trades at the end of the month and wanted opinions on what exactly to buy? I've been thinking of buying all the trades Dan Slott worked on so that means Brand New Day up to current issues more or less.

I was wondering what other trades would be fun to read? I'd prefer more modern stories. I've read some of the older stuff, and I just can't seem to get into it. Even though people sing the praises of Lee/Ditko stories all the time, I just don't find it interesting to read.

I'm hardly the biggest Spider-Man fan so I'm not so picky as to dislike stories that characterize characters differently than usual. For example, I really liked the Marvel Knights Spider-Man story by Mark Millar. I thought the story was woven together nicely and it kept you wondering what's gonna happen next and who ultimately was the person behind it all. However I've read that a decent amount of fans dislike it because the characterizations weren't true to the originals.

Mainly I just want fun reads, "deep" stories, or things that explain characters a bit more. I'm still new to the universe so I don't know much about Spider-Man's villains and his history. Books that explain his relationships would be nice too. Beyond him marrying MJ, I don't know much about their relationship.

These are the trades I have, so they don't get recommended:
Big Time
Matters of Life and Death
The Fantastic Spider-Man
Return of Anti-Venom
Spider-Man and the Human Torch
Spider-Man: Blue
Spider-Man and Mary Jane: You Just Hit the Jackpot
Kraven's Last Hunt
Death of Jean Dewolff

Would you guys recommend getting Spider Island? It seems like its gotten pretty positive reviews from some websites, the problem is that I am new to comics. the only ones I've read are the new Ultimate spider-man issues and the 4 Big Time issues. The other problem is that it would cost a lot of money to get it, so I don't want to be wasting my money. Also, I have to get comics on the comixology app and a lot of ASM's arent there so I can't get any of the good old ones that people say are the best.

I really liked Spider-Island and I think it would be worth reading. Big Time and on I think is really interesting so if you didn't pick those up yet you should too. Are you buying every issue of ASM as they come out on Comixology? If so, at what point did you start buying the issues?

No Big Time is the only 4 that I have read of ASM. Each time I see a new issue come out though, I keep wondering if I should get spider-island because even the relatively new ones say, " after Spider-Island..." in the summary. Also I feel like theres no point in getting some issues of SI, might as well get all 6 or 7 of them. Anyway, thank you for answering my question. I'll be planning on getting that as soon as I can.
