This all sounds like Marvel coping out and pulling a DC, period. The problem is, I do not trust Marvel to do this any better than DC did.

The ONLY thing I am intrigued by is Axel pointing at the "Renew Your Vows" image and saying, "If you are reading Amazing Spider-Man, this is your book." To me that reads, "We are finally admitting we were wrong on getting rid of the marriage, but at the same time we are acting like we had this cool idea of making Pete a family man." Pathetic Marvel, pathetic.

So I guess this pretty much makes Spider-Verse a moot point because the Spiders that died were gonna die with their worlds anyway. It also looks like they are dropping the whole "Peter adjusting to the chaos created but Doc Ock in his life" story after working so hard to set it up.

So all the marvel universes crash together, ALL of the characters duke it out, and the survivors lead a stream-lined and soft-rebooted marvel universe.

Personally, I think it's a good idea (and needed)...I'm just not sure if it will be executed as well as it will be needed to. Hopefully Marvel will cut back on the redundant titles.

Ultimate became irrelevant when it lasted long enough to become as convoluted and confusing to newcomers as the regular Marvel universe. It was an experiment that should've ended years ago.

I could see this as a way to end the Ultimate universe (which is obviously something people care about less). The only thing people really care about is Miles Morales, so I wouldn't mind importing him to the 616.

But the suggestions of a reboot are extremely disappointing to me. It doesn't seem necessary and just seems like a DC thing to do.

That's what I'm wondering about, it seems during Secret Wars all titles will be on hiatus. Will those comics continue afterwards?

That's my biggest question right now too. I watched the announcement, and Brevoort and Alonso are pretty vague with the specifics there (for obvious reasons... not a complaint), so I'll be curious to see what happens to individual titles, and long-building storylines that are a long way from their conclusions.

It's obvious that this event will be used to import characters like Miles Morales and the ultimate nick fury into 616. I'm conflicted. I don't want a reboot but the thought of getting rid of some stuff I don't care for gets me mildly excited.

I say the most it does is kill off some of the crap from the UU, import some other guys they want to boot in like Miles and Ult. fury and some others from other realities but the main 616 is gonna be mostly the same. Might get some more new realities to expand
into but can't see a huge amount more.

Yeah someone beat me to it. Ultimate Spider-Man is the only book that sells anymore and their most recent attempts at relaunching Fantastic Four and the Ultimates failed spectacularly.

This is them moving characters like Miles and Nick Fury to 616 before finally putting a bullet in the head of the Ultimate line.

Ultimate was fantastic there for a while but then it started to go downhill, then nose dived with Ultimates 3, and sucked by Ultimatum. Their relaunch type attempts with it were terrible, including often terrible artists instead of the high quality writers and artists they started the UU with. It was obvious immediately that their new UU stuff sucked, don't know what they were thinking.

My problem is it sounds like they're doing a half-hearted reboot like the New 52 did with keeping Batman and Green Lantern history intact. If you're going to reboot, go all the way or not at all.

That said, if they do Spidey married to MJ and and relaunch X-Men back to their roots I'll be very happy. The dark and dreary Cyclops and dead Prof X (again!) and all of them hating each other is crappy. I'd like seeing them back together as a team, maybe playing baseball again etc. Also, ditch all those stupid lame extra mutants (like the one whose skin you see through, etc).

^ I'm a fan of ugly mutants. I also appreciate mutants with no abilities whatsoever. Mutation is a messy process and it's worth not forgetting it.

I think some universes could benefit from a semi-reboot. It's not that easy. Spider-Man's reboot was met with a huge backlash, but I think it benefited a lot from it (I certainly would be skeptical they would use the reboot to make his story more complex and move him further from his roots when it seems the purpose of a reboot would be the exact opposite). But universe-wide reboots are extremely problematic because they interrupt stories by writers who are working on something else to just do something by fiat.

Nick Fury Jr. is 616. He looks just like Ultimate Nick Fury. Nick Fury Sr. might be who you're thinking of.

Doubtful. More likely is if they're merging universes they'll just reboot the character from the beginning and say he was always ultimate Fury.

It's much easier than the "Nick Fury has a black son who is also named Nick Fury and who lost the same eye as his dad" retcon.

I don't read a lot of comics these days and pretty much everything I do read is Marvel. If they do a full reboot then I probably won't bother with them much anymore. I stopped reading 99% of DC for that same reason. If there's no history connecting the books together I really can't get interested.

It most likely is. Seems they are taking a big page out of CoIE. Now whether it's a soft reboot or a hard one is the real question.

You do realize Marvel makes most of its money in other media rather the comic books and so it really doesn't matter how long 25 year fans will driven away from this decision right?

Comic books are increasing the least important thing to big comic book companies, its how much money they can make in other media. I think some comic book fans have a tough time with the fact comic books themselves are rather unimportant compared to the billions made in other media, comic books are a niche market, kids know about these characters primarily through other media now. Marvel has always been a profit seeking corporation, it was never some art house studio.
