Secret Wars to return next year.

Soo, I just saw the preview for DC's convergence

Are the two companies really doing the same exact f***ing event??

That's just terrible
If I didn't know better, I'd say maybe the two companies would be merged by the end of it
but that'll never happen, so instead, this is just really awful f***in' timing

DC also had Multiversity while Marvel had Spiderverse as well...

Because this whole thing is a mess.

Yeah. I have no idea what's going on in the MU right now. I guess they're trying to streamline it by making it more convoluted or something?

I honestly think Marvel publishing's overall goal is to drive out most long time fans. All of this crap will have me sitting out most of it. I hope the new customers it generates makes up for those of us stepping away.

They need to make room for people won't stick around after one issue. Okay guys?

Oh yippe...Kid Nova and stereotype annoying teenager Ms. Marvel on the same team...oh joy...

And Miles is one the team as well but no Ultimate Jessica Drew...

Well, considering all three of them are hugely popular, it certainly makes sense to put them in the flagship title.

It does seem odd though to have so many kids on the main title and front and center. This isnt Young Avengers

I don't know if I'd call sales in the 20-30k range as "hugely popular"
saddens me that Ms Marvel sells more than Captain Marvel though

and yeah, that is weird, I hate teenager books

I personally think Ms Marvel is way better than Captain Marvel. Ms Marvel has the same appeal that made Spider-Man so popular, but updated and changed just enough.

yeah I mean, I tried the first couple arcs of CM, and to be honest they did kinda bore me
and I've heard only positives about Ms Marvel

I just love the character of CM so much, I don't want to see Marvel decide to sideline her in the comics for Khamala because of sales alone

the 10000 issue difference in sales is small anyway, probably driven mostly by the internet's love for her

I think I want to like Captain Marvel more than I actually do. But her comic is still pretty good, I just get turned off by another American military superhero.

Captain Marvel started out poorly, but got much stronger as time went on. I think her space stories are better than what came before. Ms. Marvel, on the other hand, has been strong all the way through. It's a very self-aware comic for the hipster generation, but it does a good job of capturing the energy of a young superhero like how Peter Parker was originally. It's not flawless (I'm not convinced about the antagonist), but it is a breath of fresh air and deserves all the hype it gets.

About X-Men after Secret Wars:

Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso told CBR that the company is building "an entire new world for the characters" after Secret Wars.

"The X-Men office is taking the opportunity of Secret Wars to build an entire new world for the characters - to create a shared universe within the X-books that's set off by a huge event/incident/surprise," says Alonso. "At that point, they're going to introduce a new team that feels unlike anything you've seen before. It'll be... 'extraordinary.'"

Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso is just flat out poison in the well. Honestly, his run is making Joe Quesada look not just good but Hall of Fame GREAT by comparison. Hard to believe.

Maybe the anti-Fox shift is on from above concerning X-Men but I doubt it. The guy just doesn't know how to assign or how to lead. In desperation to try new things, he's throwing out what has worked and what made Marvel the top dog in the first place.

It's genuinely unhealthy for the entire Marvel name overall. Nothing and I mean NOTHING that has happened in the books over the past five years will ever be considered for adaptation on to either the silver screen or the small screen. Basically, the MCU feeder material is now a dry well. When you kill the core (even with 70 years in the bank) that's not good for anyone. The characters in the books have never been this disjointed, shallow and flat out uninteresting. I never thought I'd say that about Marvel.

No offense, but do you really believe that? The past five years have seen plny of hit new chaacters and critically acclaimed stories. I'd be very suprised if we don't see Kamala, Sam Alxander, Miles, Agent Venom and other new characters brought to life on screen in the next decade. Falcon could very well be taking over for Cap after Civil War. And the new Inhumans comics are sure to be very influential on their big-sceen counterparts.

Frankly, while I don't like that description, it's way too vague to be bothered by it.

Exactly. Its obvious the new Inhumans material is being dictated by the MCU. We've already seen this plot pop up in AoS. Marvel has been building them up within the books bc of their plans in the MCU. The modern day version of the GoTG are soon to get a cartoon series and plots from the book are likely going to be used there. Captain Marvel starring Carol in her new roles has a film lined up. For anyone to say nothing from the last 5 years will have any impact on Marvel's mainstream plans is ridiculous bc we are already seeing evidence of the opposite. Now more than ever, Marvel is about synergy between their comic, movie and tv lines. They influence each other

Well, Bleeding Cool revealed DC's Convergence last summer (band-aid project). And the outcome of Convergence will probably have no consequences over DC's June books in terms of continuity.

Hey now, Nova comics have been great.

Miles:ilv:

Miles I really don't have a problem with as a character, as THE Spider-Man, eh, not so much.

I am currently reading Nova. Sam isn't bad and he is really growing up...but he is no Richard Rider.

Honestly the most interesting character for me from the Ultimate Universe is Jessica Drew/Black Widow. Her and 616 Kaine make an awesome team. I wish Marvel would explore Scarlet Spiders more than they did in that mini. Adding in a version of Ben Reilly would also help solidify that team as he plays the team's continence role.

As for Ms Marvel...every book I have read with her as a guest star has ruined the story for me. Maybe I would feel differently if I read her book, but nothing I have seen has made me want to. Also I think the "hipster" mindset is stupid and a waste of space anyway.

In the world of of Secret Wars' Battleworld, the globe is cordoned off from dangerous regions by an immense wall known as the Shield -- and patrolling that wall are some familiar faces.

Kieron Gillen is returning to some familiar characters in the new Siege series set inside the Secret Wars event. Siege stars Abigail Brand and S.W.O.R.D., characters created by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday and later written by Gillen in the short-lived S.W.O.R.D. series. Although that series didn't last long, when he first heard of plans of Secret Wars his return materialized pretty quickly.

“I was at the Marvel retreat where Jonathan [Hickman] was first explaining the structure of Battleworld,” says Gillen. “He reached the Shield, and I pretty much laughed to myself and thinking ‘There’s the story I want to write.’”

Described as a 'spiritual sequel' to his aforementioned S.W.O.R.D. series, Gillen describes Siege as the Night Watch from Game of Thrones if they recruited from the Marvel Universe.

“The Shield’s purpose is to stop everything that’s south of that point going north of that point,” Gillen says. “It’s because everything south of the Shield is entirely ungovernable. They don’t pay taxes. They jaywalk. They want to eat you. Being deposited on the Shield is a punishment for a mixture of people who are entirely too battle-hungry or entirely too heroic. It’s deliberately a Sisyphean task, for reasons that I can’t really go into yet. As the series tagline says, ‘They can't ever win—they can’t afford to lose.’"

Abigail Brand is joined by an eclectic cast for Siege, including Miss America Chavez from Young Avengers, Leah of Hel from Journey Into Mystery, Illyanna Rasputin from All-NEw X-Men, a medieval version of Kate "Hawkeye" Bishop, a number of UNITs from S.W.O.R.D. and an army of clones from Mr. Sinister called the Endless Summers.

Siege will be illustrated by Captain Marvel's Filipe Andrade, as well as "guest artists" including James Stokoe. Marvel has not said the length of the series or when it will debut.

Uh Brand, America Chavez, and Majik on a team? Interesting.

Did anything major happen in any Ultimate or Avenger title this week? In Deadpool **** looked like it hit the fan regarding Secret Wars.
