Who reads em? What have you read? Did it help you?
If anyone mentions The Secret or similar books, you'll be castrated. (Hmm...maybe I should read a book on anger management...)
I'll start.
Book: The Power of Now
What its about: Pretty much what the title suggests. It doesn't address any one topic in particular (like self-image, relaitonships, etc), but more so focuses on our preception of what reality truely is and how that affects our well being. Its also about how our minds are tools made to solve problems, however, we are never taught how to turn it off, and therefore, much of our stress in life comes from our minds struggling to do its "job" even when it shouldnt be. It takes teachings from numerous religions and cultural identities and thought processes to explain and comfort. Its about focusing on the present, the exact moment of existence in which you reside, and how nothing else matters, or at least isn't worth stressing over. Of course, this is a complete over-simplification.
Has it helpped? Yes and no. Being a worry-wart, I did find some of what it had to say helpful, and often try to recall things I read to bring focus back into the "now", but its hit-or-miss and certainly hasn't "changed my life".
