I am listening to the Chris Baker show in Houston. Its talk radio.

They are talking about the FEMA checks that people were using to buy porn, beer and anything other than what they were suppossed to be used.

A gentleman called up a few minutes ago. He has been here since Katrina. He is still living in an apartmet completely subsidized by FEMA. He told Chris on the show, he has done absolutely NOTHING while here. He blatantly said on the radio, he lives in a cess pool in New Orleans and basically was treating this like a god-send vacation for him since the area he lived in was so bad.

Chris asked him, have you tried to get a job?

The guy responded, I have looked a little and cant find anything.

ARG! This pisses me off. I am pretty damn sure if he looked hard enough he can get something...When you are hurting for cash, get a freaking garbage job. I would, my pride is not above it.

What I am tired of, are these guys, like this, who have milked this government funding for a year, and have done NOTHING. He could have gotten a minimum wage job, while not having to pay for his housing and could have had a nice little nestegg for himself by the time the subsidizing of the apartment was over.

ARG, I dont freaking work 50-60 hours a week (sometimes more) so some damn lazy bastard can milk MY money so he can sit on his lice ridden couch and complain that he gets nothing.

I am almost getting to a heartless atttitude in this fashion. Cut all funds, cut the cord. I could get even nastier, but it would not be appropriate.
I hate people like that too. They are lazy @ss holes that live off of my taxes that comes from my paycheck. There should be stipulations of how you can spend your FEMA check. I have a family that lives close to my apartments that live off of welfare. Everyday when I am headed out to work...that family is outside standing around their cars listening to loud rap music and laughing. They are in the exact same place when I get home for lunch and at the end of the day. I have even seen them playing football with their kids! These kind of people despise me.

THEY despise YOU? Why? What'd you do to them?

Yep. FEMA should've had far more oversight to their Katrina relief program. It really is ashame. People talk about how the citizens of New Orleans were the victims of Katrina, what about the housands of tax payers getting ripped off?

Lol.
Yes, you do. Hahahahaha

" A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of
government. It can only exist until the voters discover
that they can vote themselves largess from the public
treasury. From that time on the majority always votes
for the candidates promising the most benefits from the
public treasury, with the results that a democracy
always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed
by a dictatorship."

Aaaaalright then:confused: . Who said that?

Alexander Tytler is most often accredited for it, but it could be an urban myth.

This is also attributed to him.

"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From Bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."

Yeah i heard about that on NPR today. People get so pissed off about this, but nobody gives a rats ass that congress voted themselves another raise. 6K more a year, and no one makes an issue.

Some lower class ppl take advantage of the government situation and we'e all up in arms.

Personally i'm pissed that congress is giving itself more money. MY money. Hard earned tax dollars etc.

I am ticked off about the raise too...
But this thing just irritated me a little more...
This is billions of dollars...

SO where are we at right now?? I would say apathy/dependence...which makes me sad :(

Of course the one flaw to the theory would be the UK...technically

Actually you do work 50 to 60 hours a week so some lazy biastard can milk your money.

You might not want to, but you do.

FEMA checks went towards someone getting a sex change.

This is precisely why the government shouldn't stick their noses into recovery efforts. Nowhere in the Constitution does it even begin to speak to that need.
The people should do it privately... it would be much more efficient.
But this is coming from a libertarian, mind you...

And the old aged, disabled who can't work etc. What should one do with them? Leave them to their devices in the mean cold streets of US of A? I think not. I think socialism is neccessary, but I understand your gripe about the people who take advantage of it. But you can't please everyone.

We can recycle old people into useful things like book covers or dog food.
