Sex Offender too short to serve prison time

You're right. The Judge shouldn't have to look at this type of thing, they should be able to ensure the guy's safety regardless. But you have to deal with the reality, and the prison system does run on violence and gangs currently.

Clearly you've never been to Nebraska if you're worried about gangs :D

Last I knew the only ones around were the East Side Locos and the South Side Rednecks :D haha

You know what...that raises a question. What the hell do they do with midgets/little people/current-PC-term when they are sentanced to prison???

There's the irony...they put them in prison just like anyone else. They just provide smaller furniture in the cells.

So if midgets/little people/current-PC-term, can survive in jail, why can't this guy???

There was actually a pretty decent gang population here not too long ago. I haven't heard much about it recently but I think it dropped off. MTV even came to my High School several years ago to do a documentary on gangs. It was really werid...and scary.

edit: several years ago. over ten years ago. God I'm getting old. :(

Yeah, I guess Omaha was a little rough for a while...I blame it not on gangs, but wannabe's who felt they had to prove something. They must have grown up and moved on.

Good point "old man" :p :D

Judge rules sex offender is too short for prison
5-foot-1 man gets 10 years probation for sexual assault of a child

Updated: 5:37 p.m. MT May 25, 2006

SIDNEY, Neb. - A judge said a 5-foot-1 man convicted of sexually assaulting a child was too small to survive in prison, and gave him 10 years of probation instead.

His crimes deserved a long sentence, District Judge Kristine Cecava said, but she worried that Richard W. Thompson, 50, would be especially imperiled by prison dangers.

"You are a sex offender, and you did it to a child," she said.

But, she said, "That doesn't make you a hunter. You do not fit in that category."

Thompson will be electronically monitored the first four months of his probation, and he was told to never be alone with someone under age 18 or date or live with a woman whose children were under 18. Cecava also ordered Thompson to get rid of his pornography.

LOL.......I WOULD'VE THOUGHT 5 FOOT WOULD BE THE PERFECT HEIGHT FOR A NEW PRISON INMATE........AT LEAST WHERE 'BUBBA' IS CONCERNED. :D

"COME OVER HERE, B**CH, AND GET ON YOUR KNEES!" "WAIT, NEVERMIND....YOU'RE FINE THE WAY YOU ARE. :marv:

Well, alrighty then. I'll keep that in mind if I ever feel the need to reply to one of your posts.

It makes sense and I think it's step in the right direction. Prisons are not supposed to be lions' dens where men are thrown in and have to fight for their lives or be torn to pieces. I don't care what the crime is, that's not something civilized humans should still be putting other human beings through, even as punishment. A man who's five feet tall wouldn't last two seconds in prison. The man is not a monster or an animal. He's a sick and misguided person, and needs treatment and counseling. He's got a much better chance of changing his ways on the outside with professional help and guidance than in prison. If it fails to work for him, then let him stay in the system forever. But the judicial system should take these kinds of things (stature, age, etc.) into consideration when deciding whether to put someone in a prison.

Are you serious...this s.o.b assaulted a kid..A KID. He is a monster and he is an animal...wtf

If we started mistreating inmates because we feel their crime is deplorable the justice system would completely break down. The justice system's responsibility is to provide for the safety of those in their custody. Human rights aren't shirked just because we feel someone is a bad person.

If thats how it worked, then war criminals would just be shot rather than put on trial. Use your noodle before you let your "gut" do your thinking for you, please.

No he isn't. He's a human being who's developed unhealthy and harmful ideas and behaviors. I'm not saying there shouldn't be consequences for what he did. But he's sick. He should have a chance to be helped and reformed. And if it just doesn't work for him, then he should be kept away from society to prevent him from hurting people again. But keeping him away from society should not include disregarding his humanity and life and treating him like an animal just because people think he "deserves it".

This is an example of the shortcomings of our liberalized justice system. Because Liberals have pushed the justice system towards less harsh, but just methods of punishing our criminals, people in society have allowed a tolerance of mistreating prisoners within the prison system.

Did anyone bring up the fact that this guy was molesting someone who was to small to be molested???

Yeah, great.... electronic monitoring for four months and a stern talking to... yeah, that'll work!!!

Perhaps this Judge Christine Cecava's brain is too small for her to remain a judge???

So in other words, Prison= hellhole where you're bound to die and never be rehabilitated.

He wouldve gotten a short sentence anyway.
Yeah, but he should have spent that sentence being shanked and raped by large black men.

I say, if you rape a child, you must be raped by atleast one large black man.

I think there was a pun in his statement.

For many prisoners, yes it is. Especially if you're a 5 foot tall man who committed a sex crime against a child. An inmate like that is basically D.O.A.. And prisons sure as hell don't rehabilitate.

I can't wait till we start using behavior modification on criminals.

He shouls still go to prision.
Alone with the other violence starved convicts, he would pay his dues.

There's the American Justice system for you.

I didn't know Brian Peppers got arrested.
