Sgt. Rock

For the record, Folie is a horrifically bad movie but it’s also good Phillips was allowed to make it.

Also: Luca is not Phillips. He’s a vastly, vastly better filmmaker.

Is it a good thing? I think it never should've been made. Joker should've been a standalone film, and making a sequel was terrible.

When stuff randomly gets canceled or indefinitely delayed you usually get the old "creative differences" line. This was specific to exterior shooting and scheduling. You also hardly ever hear more news right after clarifying that it actually isn't canceled to the point that trades need to completely rejigger their articles.

This could easily die, but those tid bits give me a sliver of hope.

Fingers crossed.

I think Joker itself sucks but if you make a studio a billion dollars you absolutely should have total control over the sequel. That’s a classic thing that has worked out well innumerable times. Once in awhile it’ll misfire. **** happens, I don’t care about WBs money or shareholders.

At that very studio, with the same stable of characters.

I thought Joker was bad but Joker 2 was infinitely better thanks to Gaga’s take on Harley. If they realized what they had, they could have done something cool with her character / story. And actually used her singing talent for a legitimate musical—not these half-steps the final film took.

I will pivot again if I feel like it. There's nothing wrong with pivoting.

I have to imagine them wanting to wait and see how Superman does has to have factored into their decision? If its successful, I should think they'll feel more confident going forward with this.

Hopefully next summer. Would've been a pretty short shoot too smh

I also wanted to ask about Sgt. Rock. With all the information flying out there, could you set the record straight on that in terms of where it is?

I feel like we're in a pretty good place. We're still moving forward, but it's not going to be...What would Peter want me to say here? ... So it's still moving forward, but, yeah, right now it wasn't exactly where I wanted it to be creatively, and so it needs to change a little bit.

JAMES. Keep it low budget and let Guadagnino do whatever he wants, and you'll have the most interesting CBM of the decade.

Seems like a script thing so we'll see. Once that's where everyone wants it I don't see him being all that hands on with the director.

This is the kind of back they talk about when they say we're so back.

Booooooooooo. Cool points gone. Inherently boring replacement incoming.

I wonder how this film film feel amid the more fantastical stuff Gunn is doing with this universe. I know there are rumors that it includes stuff like the Spear of Destiny, so it could fit right in and have more of an Indiana Jones type of feel, only with even more of a WW2 feel to it. And that could be really cool. But I also worry that if they try to make it too much of a gritty war film then it could stick out in a way that wouldn’t work with the rest of the DCU. War cinema a is tricky because while there is no specific blueprint you need to follow, there is a general reverence to the sacrifices made in war (especially in wars as devastating and with insane repercussions like WW2 and I worry that if they go too whimsical with it then it could risk upsetting people. Or maybe not. We’ve had plenty of war films that didn’t take themselves too seriously like Inflourious Basterds, so who knows? Maybe it will all work out great.
