Well tell your sister to pick up a Cap comic or two maybe the recent ones and she'll (you'll) find that Sharon is the love of Cap's life according to the comic writers. But Sharon is more than a "ship" mate to Cap, she's like Sam and Bucky - a great main Cap supporting character.
Sharon could have been a great "Cap corner of the MCU character", but she's just...kinda not. Not VanCamp's fault, they just don't know what to do with her..
Even Chris Evans and Emily VanCamp said that that whole relationship was a little weird! I mean, she was Peggy's niece, right?
Yeah, pretty much a waste of time with what she was given. This is pretty much how I feel about her too. She just didn't do anything, she just, like, randomly showed up to kiss Steve, and then disappeared again. I didn't feel like she added anything to the storyline, and she herself didn't seem to have much motive, or personality, or anything. She was boring, in my humble opinion.
Good point. She did seem like a junior agent in TWS. But she def felt like she had been promoted in CW.I am baffled as to why they maintained that aspect of the character for the movie. I don't get why Sharon also had to be Peggy's niece in the MCU. Or why they felt Sharon could still be a viable love interest for Steve in the MCU while still being related to Peggy and not have it be weird enough that they needed to address it (as opposed to ignoring it, like they did in Civil War). They either needed to remove the relation, or make it an obstacle for getting Steve and Sharon together ("do you actually want to be with me for me, or because I am related to Peggy?") and address it more head on.
Sharon also needed to be more battle hardened in Civil War, too. SHIELD got destroyed in Winter Soldier, she saw friends of hers get killed while Hydra was trying to carry out Project Insight, and had to join the F.B.I, etc. She seemed like a less experienced agent in Winter Soldier but after what happened at the end of that movie she should've been a little more hardened in Civil War.
I believe so as she was in promotional material as a part of Team Cap I believe.Wasn't she originally suppose to be in the airport fight sequence?
Kinda wish she'd have been spoken of in Agents of Shield. If there's no screentime for her in the MCU, then give her a few guest appearances on AoS.
It's a shame that she was limited to like 6mins of screentime across 2 films since she has some rabid fans. That being said, it was nice to see a non-enhanced person actually fight for something. She's grossly outmatched against Bucky, but still went at him.
Also, if people paid attention in CA:TWS it was clearly established that Cap had a crush on Sharon because he asked her out while she was undercover as Kate but she had to turn him down because of conflicts of interest!
No offence to Maria Hill, but it should've been Sharon in Avengers 1 combined with some of your suggestions. Seriously the MCU wasted Sharon, she was/is such a great comics character. And the writers should have written CA:TFA in the present with long flashbacks of WW2, Peggy given a small part, and Sharon/Sam/Rumlow introduced in the first movie too. The Cap comics are so rich in materials that they wasted! Chris Evans is a great Cap and I feel that he's been wasted too!I always just thought Sharon should have just been Mockingbird in TWS anyway, y'know? Junior young agent, but of the right character that Fury's seeing something in her and putting his trust in her to oversee/report on Steve from next-door.
If you were going to get into Sharon for the movies, the first Avengers probably would have been the time to introduce he. Cast her a little older, keep her Peggy's niece but the relationship with Steve is totally platonic (at least for quite a while, you could do a really slow-burn thing where like 5-6 movies later they end up together I guess), and have her like S.H.I.E.L.D.'s "black ops Navy SEAL" area from the start, contrasting with Natasha's/Clint's spy stuff
Could even have had a cool thing in The Winter Soldier of the Lemurian Star special forces team being split down the middle, half loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. and half Hydra, that comes out with a split mid-movie and half ally with Steve/Sharon, half with Rumlow (although I kinda even hate that MCU Rumlow is S.H.I.E.L.D. to begin with).
All in all I think Sharon just suffers because everything cool about her was moved over to Peggy. Peggy's basically a nothing-character in the books, they made a great move with the films to make her substantial, and you're sort of left with Sharon just feeling like this lame present-day substitute.
Funny because Markus and McFeely are disappointed themselves too. For the CA TFA promo they spoke enthusiastically about Sharon's "meaty role" for CA TWS and in other occasions; they championed her. Plus your "feeling" is not a fact because Sharon was suppose to be the main female lead in CA TWS but it was the RUSSOS not the writers who took it away and gave it to their fav BW. If you read the Cap comics, Sharon plays a major role in the past and in the current issues where it mentions that she's the love of Cap's life so it was a no brainer for Markus and McFeely to have her in the Cap movies like Sam.Im pretty sure markus and mcfeelyncouldnt care less whether they disappoint a user in a forum or not.
They have so much on their plate for two avengers films, they couldnt care less about sharon. I also have the suspicion that sharon was forced by the creative committee to the russos and they dont care about her.
And frankly tgey have every right in the world to not care. They can have preferences too like every fan.
Guess you didn't pay attentionSorry. Not true.![]()
I guess the question is why did they give her role over to Black Widow. Was there room to give Sharon a bigger role in the film (but still less than that of BW)? Was it jue to Van Camp's acting or (less than star name) or was there more to it?Funny because Markus and McFeely are disappointed themselves too.
