I would say it's overly set in the same universe. Lots of mentions and nods to other members of the Justice League and

There are nods. Freddy talks about Batman and Superman, as well as wears an Aquaman shirt. And Superman (not Henry Cavill) show up in the last scene for a cameo.

It is a bit odd that they would have superhero merchandise in a world with superheroes but I guess it happens in comics as well.

The Batman and Superman nods and mentions just felt weird to me since Affleck is out and I doubt we see Cavill as Superman again.

It looked more like the MOS suit than the JL suit. I really wish they had worked it out and were able to actually have Cavill there. People would have gone even more nuts.

You think so? It seemed more like the overly padded, shiny JL suit to me, but it goes by pretty quick, so I could be wrong.

I imagine when they filmed it, they weren't sure what was going to happen.

I'm not sure it was intentional but more like Shazam is the "new thing"

It's pretty clear this is set in the same universe (not so much the tone though). A number of nods or references that could only be of the DCEU characters rather than just Superman or Batman in general, plus the end credits is animated (in an 80's John Cusack film kind of way-- Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer) and there were clear visual references to characters in the DCEU. The movie doesn't focus too much on it, but it's pretty clear it's there.

What's a bit strange is that it makes it seem like Shazam is a second wave superhero, which he is in this universe, but that, in-universe, people with these kinds of abilities are youtube view worth and will still be on the news, but it's not so far out anymore. I wish some of the scenes still had the characters still show more surprise or be more caught off guard than they were. I like that Aquaman's movie still made is seem that there was still mystery around the character, that the world was still getting used to these kinds of beings existing. Shazam! was more in your face that superheroes exist and that's now just the world they live in. It was little jarring for me, personally.

That's the other way to take it, and given Sandberg's respect for those characters, that's what I choose to assume. But it did occur to me that the other interpretation is possible.

And like I said earlier, it felt weird to me knowing we're not seeing Affleck's Batman again (Does this universe even have a Batman now?) and Cavill may or may not be Superman still. I know, a bit of a nitpick, but it still sort of bugged me.

Oh, definitely. I don't disagree with that. But actual superheroes would still be a big deal, especially flight, superstrength, etc.

And I would still think Batman would still be a mysterious character. But then again, if they know he DOES exist, they can make up the rest when it comes to creating merchandise.

In the comics, they'd had a Batburger restaurant which Bruce Wayne wasn't pleased about at all, I'd think with the Batsignal and likely fleeting images of him in action, it wouldn't be difficult to make Batman merchandise.

When the Shazam family shows up, the place went nuts.

There were a couple of people that stood up cheering in my theater!

The only member of the Shazam family that stood out in the end for me was Darla. I felt like Adam Brody's jokes felt really forced. I'm not sure if that was the dialogue or his delivery or a mix of both

I wish we he had seen more of them in general. Ms Marvel was really just in one scene.

I think that’s where the relatively low budget hurt them. Only so much cgi money to go around.

I know the big theme of this movie was family, but I wish they would have waited for the sequel for them to get powers too. They would have had more development and I think it kind of takes away from Billy, personally.
