Shazam Shazam Spoilers Thread

Not true.

If you really want to be spoiled when it happens

Sivana is kicking Shazam’s ass at the fairground while the seven sins are terrorizing the family. Sivana wants Shazam to transfer his power to him by using the wizard’s staff. That’s when Shazam realizes he can transfer it to the family based on what the wizard said earlier.

So he manages to get a hold of the staff away from Sivana. He runs to the family and tells them to all grab it and say his name. The all yell out “Billy!” at first (really funny scene) and Shazam then says “No say the name I use to transform” which leads to the most awesome scene of the movie where you see the grown-up versions.

He’s never called Shazam by the public but I think it’s clear that is the name he goes by now

Eh, that's hardly definitive, it comes across as he meant one thing and said another at first. If he can't name himself without transforming, he can't go by it.

Finally, I'm able to enter this secret lair. :chd:

I love the movie.
And David F Sandberg loves to endanger or kill his wive in his movies.
"Honey, I'm going to kill you this way for my superhero movie debut."
"Oh wow, I love that idea!"
That's a couple goal right there.

WB-DC also managed to make Djimon Hounsou looks unattractive two times in a row. We didn't get to see him much but I love his scenes, so dramatic. :grrr:
Hopefully we'll see him again in the Black Adam movie.
I keep wondering what it's like if Ron Cephas Jones was still in the role.

Zachary Levi is perfect for Cap. Just perfection. He's endearing and too believable as a kid. He's the best adult actor portraying as a kid in the movie.
Not a knock on other Marvel Family adult actors at all, they're great at acting like kids and seem natural but it's just a testament to ZL's portrayal.
I legit uncomfortable when Doctor Sivana creepily touches his face to take a closer look. I remember I was thinking, "You know he's just a child, stop touching him!" I totally forgot that he's Zachary Levi at that point.

I get when people think that Billy and Cap seem too different but I buy that they're a same person. Same character flaws, and Billy is just angstier and deals with personal issues story beats. His mischievous pawn shop stunt looks like something ZL's Cap might do.

And I miss the Annabelle cameo, dang.

Asher is good, better than I thought he'd be based on Andi Mack clips on YouTube that I watched.
JDG is a scene stealer, type of an actor that you know will be winning awards in the future.
Great dynamics with both Billies. He's a major factor that makes their scenes work.

I love Mark Strong in this. He's too good at playing villain and very happy with his potential appearance in the sequel.
A dark villain and his scenes are just amazing.
John Glover is too good at becoming bad father on screen. :funny:

People are keep saying that there are jump scares but I didn't aware of them. Spooky yes, but if any part was meant to surprise me, not even once. But it definitely has great horror elements and sensibilities.
Weirdly I don't think the first 30 minutes to be boring at all, I found it very fascinating and unlike a CBM movie.
Overall looks is great, sometime seems pricier than its budget.

Violent? Yes. Not kind of things that I would say violent but things that I could see would make some parents complain or nightmare inducing for kids under 10.
Oh, I heard about strip club joke beforehand but the actual jokes in the movie is actually less perverted than it sounds and pretty funny.

Minor: Disappointed with lack of 'Big Red Cheese' nickname by Sivana. Or Tawky Tawny. Tiger plushie is a neat touch though.

Foster family is awesome and I want to see more of them. Darla, Eugene, Mary, Pedro, and the Vasquezes. All of the actors are great and likable.
Nice take on blood family vs found family.

This is a great family slash Christmas movie.

10,5 Santas out of a dozen Philly Santas.
9/10 for me.

I just watched SHAZAM! Confused about the post credits scene...

Can anyone please tell me about the post credits scene involving the talking caterpillar?
Who is that and what is his deal?

Thanks in advance.

A person in another place knows and able to explains it better:

"Mister Mind, hyper intelligent worm. His classic origin is just being an alien with minor telephatic powers and a genius-level intellect who eventually gathers and leads a huge army of villains and monsters. More recently it was revealed that he was actually a larva and eventually evolved into a "hyperfly", a monster that eats space and time and attempted to devour the entire multiverse before being defeated.

This is all pre-reboot though when many of Shazam's villains were sci-fi based. The New 52 reboot that this movie follows is changing everyone to magic focus like Shazam himself, so I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't an alien anymore, but some kind of god or magical creation."

Thank you both.

Mr Mind for the sequel has potential and also brings in a new element with both the Monster Society of Evil, The Seven Realms is a fairly new aspect to the comics so I'll be curious to see how it is adapted to live action

Surprised there weren't any Elvis Presley references in the movie, at least none that I noticed.

When I first heard Mr Mind’s voice in the first credit scene, I thought it was The Brain since it sounded just like his voice from the Teen Titans series.

Brain (comics) - Wikipedia

Holy crap me too even though I KNEW it was Mr. Mind! Just sounded too much like him.

And I swear one of the Seven Deadly Sins had the voice of Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget...

Yes, a small one. Just before Shazam (the wizard) gives Billy his powers, he gives a short expo dump with visuals ( think tiny glowing rpg minis made from pixie dust) in which he talks about a previous champion who was given the power but betrayed the council of wizards and freed the Seven Deadly Sins. Clearly, at least to me, that was BA.

Yeah that was definitely foreshadowing BA.

I honestly cant believe how little of the film we saw before the film came out. I mean they kept a lid on almost all of it!

Ok first and foremost Freddy Freeman stole the film. Every scene he is in he is just doing something that makes you smile or giggle or point and go "YES!". Even when he is fighting with Billy cause Billy is being a jerk he just nails it. Even though I knew it was coming when he got powers (even if it wasnt still him playing the part) I kinda got chills because THAT is the essence of everything Shazam is about...wish fulfillment. I also like that Billy becomes kind of a dick for a bit...that is totally believable.

As I said in the non-spoiler thread this is not the best DC film ever, it wont win awards or anything but it is something special. The entire robbery scene...that would have been me and my buddy if I one day had powers. (shoot him in the face!!!) Billy calling everyone old even though he looks like he is their age...awesome! And the "Fire Immunity" gag...BRILLIANT! :D

The Seven Deadly Sins were awesome. Very cool effect and creepy as hell! The boardroom scene with Lionel Luthor...errr...Daddy Sivana and the Board of Directors was both funny and scary. Perfect example of the 80s/90s kids film vibe of the movie even down to the over the top campyy acting.

My one gripe was it was a bit easy for Sivana to figure out how to get to the Rock of Eternity...but eh whatever had to move the story along. Plus Mark Strong was really cool as Sivana and I am not his biggest fan.

Shazam Family was awesome...Darla was a treat. (literally ripped from the pages) Eugene doing /street Fighter moves when he has powers was hilarious. :)

The end sequence with the drawings...brilliant touch! Billy stealing the Batmobile and going to Prom with Wonder Woman! Darla beating Flash in a race! Aquaman stealing all of the people in line for selfies with Billy! Just had me smiling like a kid.

9 out of 10 for me...seeing it again on Wednesday. (this time not in 3D even though the 3D wasnt bad)

The only thing I really thought sucked was headless Superman at the end.

Why. Even. Bother?

To show the status Shazam now had

Meagan Good in that purple Marvel outfit....the lord is my shepard he knows what I want. :o

You got the Williams fanfare with it, still not happy? :D

Seriously, I don't know what that was supposed to mean, like "we meant Josstice League seriously, **** anything that has to do with Snyder/Zimmer stuff" (while the Shazam vs Sivana fight among the skyscrapers looked like straight homage to MoS. :funny: I remember specifically two scenes that were nearly identical), or like those few Williams' notes were better suited for such a short cameo.

I think Shazam is so tied to Superman in the film via those various situations and of course Supes is the one, so they wanted to have him there, but you know the situation with Cavill. Hence this solution...

But imagine Henry coming there like

Personally, I’d have used Gal Gadot instead. Freddie’s reaction would have been priceless.

To show the status Shazam now had

No issue with the reasoning for it... but execution was horrible. Cheesy cut off head shot of some random dude in the costume.

Again, why not use Gal?

On the discussion about superhero merchandising within a superhero universe, I don't think its a big deal and not a problem at all because its been done before. It was debated briefly in the "I Am The Night" episode of BTAS when Batman laments the fact he's merchandised to death, on t-shirts and action figures, despite his intent; to even in Kingdom Come with the Planet Krypton restaurants, showing one way the classic heroes have become in the eyes of many. If anything, and I can see it with films like Superman doing it, if they want to talk about it, they should not dismiss it but offer perspective in a thematic sense.

My head canon now has grumpy, murdery Batfleck killing and branding his way around Gotham in BvS... with a load of cheesy, brightly coloured toys of him in every shop in the city while he’s doing it.

Because WW is not Superman.

That makes zero sense. Freddie is quite clearly a fan of superheroes in general, and the actual actress who plays the part would have been far better and more of an impact than Captain Headless.

Sandberg has a twitter, you can ask him why did they choose Supes over WW.

Not in the context of the movie when Wonder Woman wasn’t even mentioned but Superman was.
