Shazam!!!

It remains to be seen. Warner changed 14 years old Billy Batson to 17 years old Billy Batson between John August's 1° and 2° drafts.

This is too good of a property to not eventually be developed. I hope something springs from this.
"A teenage Billy Batson."

You know, to me that screams a 17-year-old Billy played by a 20-year-old Zac Efron type.
You're scaring me. :(

again, I think 17 is okay as long as the kid looks like it. I think it has something to do with deal with kid actors (tuitors, working certain hours) that the director didn't want to deal with.

I think the point is that when Billy changes into Marvel, it's has to be a strong contrast.

Remember when Osiris was eaten by Sobek...goodness.:cwink:

I remember that. But, I sincerely hope that none of that stuff, along with Black Adam outright tearing people in half, is brought to a Captain Marvel movie.

Geoff Johns might seem like an unconventional fit for SHAZAM! to some, considering he's better known for his Green Lantern and Flash work. But remember, it was his reinvention of Black Adam that transformed him from a forgetten lame villain into one of DC's most compelling anti-heroes.

Well I hope his (Geoff Johns) reinvention skills translate to the motion picture adaption, although I'm seriously doubting this film is going to happen. :csad:

I agree!!

Making him 17 doesn't really do anything but give him superpowers and a little more wisdom. The joke that happens a lot with Cap Marvel is that you have this kid who is suddenly a full grown man, dealing with other adults, including grown women who have things for him and honestly want to bone him.

maybe the 14 to 17 change is due to sequels? Maybe they don't want to deal with the fact that the kid has hit puberty by the 2nd movie.

Im really interested in where they go from this. I dont know ALOT about Captain Marvel but this interests me
Im wondering what the tone will be like. I mean just from the little I know about Captain Marvel it should be kind of light or at least Star Trek where it has some dark moments but nothing that would prevent anyone under the age of 12 from seeing it

I think they shouldve kept (if this is the direction) Billy Batson a young kid like no older then 13 because thats what is so funny to me about the Captain Marvel character this kid in a grown man's body with all this strength but doesnt completely understand adult themes or subjects

As far as casting I like this:

stephan bender(superman returns)for billy batson!he even looks like brandon moale!

Bill Birch to write 'Shazam!' reboot
Peter Segal to direct comic adaptation

:word:

Great news! The Segal, Birch and Johns team should be good one.

Johns did a great job with his reinvention of Black Adam.

I have always said that in a screen version of Shazam! Billy needs to be depicted as a teenager (13-15 years old and NOT a kid under 12. Make the film like BIG mixed with Harry Potter style fantasy, action and fun, and it will be a hit.

because Geoff Johns probably is either just writing the treatment or he would rather co-write the script.

Why yes! Cast a kid to play a kid! Which is what Billy is supposed to be in the first place.

I'm not thrilled about Johns. With him on board this thing could degenerate into Black Adam: The Motion PIcture. Especially with John's ridiculous gore fetish.

Plus johns still is writing comics, doing another smallville episode, doing a treatment/producing the flash film(if that gets off the ground again).

Brandon Molale: Captain Marvel

He certainly looks like Captain Marvel.
He wants to be Captain Marvel, he is almost begging to be him.
So I guess the question is, would he be good enough to play him?

Great clip! I have to say that in addition to the obvious looks he's got for the part I just find his attitude about it to be genuinely refreshing. It reminds me of something I also enjoyed about Brandon Routh where he's just all for it. No hand-wringing over typecasting or being in tights. It's just "Hey, playing this guy would be so awesome!"

10 years ago, I would have said Trevor Morgan from Jurassic Park 3 for Billy. Now I don't know. Most kid/teen actors now aren't even talented enough to act in Nickelodeon sitcoms.

I would really love it if a genuinely likable and capable kid actor could be placed in the part of Billy, but then again I would also like if the movie itself were something that young and old alike could come to see and have fun with instead of going too far into DK Serious Business or the opposite extreme and being a Disney sitcom.

It should be a big fun cool action adventure thing but also something with a lot of charm and more importantly a lot of heart. I really don't know with if we're going get that with Johns even though part of me thinks he could do and another part of me thinks he's just going to have Black Adam ripping peoples guts out so that like so many other things Johns does it just becomes a gorror flick with capes.

Just want to restart a friendly debate on the casting of our main man Captain "The Red Cheese" Marvel.

Now here is a screen test of my choice, in this screen test he describes himself to the interviewer. I am so sorry but in his description of himself, just SCREAMS Captain Marvel to me. Imagine (Dwayne Johnson) him portraying the guy that Elvis himself wanted to be Captain Marvel. Well Jr Marvel actually but same difference. :cwink: lol

I know he is one of those choices that is hard to take serious because everyone suggests him for everything, but I truly think Nathan Fillion could knock Captain Marvel out of the park

The squinty eyes, the cheesy stance. He ain't the spitting image, but most of the appeal is in the performance.
