I think you can cast a lesser known as Marvel, as I'm almost certain the Rock along with the boy they cast will be the bigger names. Molale is the one.

Look at this mother****er's jawline. It's like he leapt right off the page.
He's got my vote. Nothing wrong with casting a guy who actually matches the character's appearance, something Brendan Fraser does not do in this case.

I was against Molale at first, but now I'm warming up to him as the character. I think he would be great.

It takes more then looks to make a fictional character work on screen.

Whoever they get for Marvel must be able to convincingly act like a young innocent kid, some comedic chops and be a great action hero.

Fraser can deliver those. He isn't a small or skinny guy, either.

Being slightly shorter then The Rock would be a great way to make Black Adam more intimidating as a villain. It would give BA another edge over Marvel physically and be visually interesting whenever they interact.

Get Smart debuted as # 1 at the Bo, but I don't think it's making exceptional numbers.
Will it be enough for Warner to decide to greenlight Shazam?
Hope so.
IMO that's actually a decent opening in this overcrowded summer. With a some luck it will end up with 100 million domestic.

Current figures....

Domestic: $43,802,933 88.1%
+ Foreign: $5,900,000 11.9%

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

= Worldwide: $49,702,933

Haven't seen much of his work but he's certainly got the look.

Why do people cast actors based on looks and not talent?

Give me Brendon Fraiser.

I don't think Fraser fits as CM....I think Brandon Molale would be a perfect CM and a good compliment to Rock as Black Adam.

I really would have liked Fraser as Superman....but that opportunity has been wasted and is lost.

I think what Stormin Normin is saying is what is everyone basing this opinion on. At least Fraser has proven himself as a leading man and has good comedic timing. What has Morale done that has shown even remotely the capablities of leading a film beyond having a strong chin?

That's like picking the girl with the biggest rack instead of the girl you can talk to for hours.

Which candidates don't you think have talent?

Fraser would be perfect if they can't get Warburton.

Molale. No one has seen him act - yet everyone wants him. :csad:

Molale. No one has seen him act - yet everyone wants him. :csad:

How can you like Fraser for Superman...and not Captain Marvel? Come on.

Whoever they cast as CM isn't going to have to give off a great acting peformance that will need tons of range. Some comedy will be necessary but the actor needs to look and act noble and heroic as the Captain and be able to do great fight and action scenes with Rock. Molale has that that CM look. I think whoever they cast as Billy Batson and the Wizard Shazam will be more important in regards to acting range. Rock will be there for some comedy but mostly to bring the epic fight scenes with CM.

However I would accept Fraser, I just think Molale maybe a better fit for the role.

I don't have an opinion on him. Haven't seen his work. I don't want him if he can't back up his appearance with solid acting.

Fraser would make a much better Marvel then Superman. His acting is more suited for the light hearted Big Red Cheese.

CM is going to be a major part of Shazam!. He's the "face" of the franchise.

It's not an easy role if they're going to adapting the classic Fawcett version. The character is equal parts comedy, innocent little kid and action hero. That requires competent acting skill to pull off. It's not much different with the DC version, just less funny/corny.

Agreed.

Whoever they get needs some serious acting skill particular with comedy and action.

However I would accept Fraser, I just think Molale maybe a better fit for the role.

My problem with Molale is I don't know how good his acting skill is. If he can deliver acting in comedy, drama and action like Fraser then it's cool.

The more I think about Fraser the more I want him for CM. :D

Terry:

That's not an impressive resume for a CM candidate. Whoever they get needs to at least be a good supporting cast member or lead in a film. Molale's roles are more like cameos.

Which chicks are you talking about? You mean the WW thread here? Most of them have more experience in superior roles then Molale does. Even McPhee and Megan Fox have gotten major supporting roles in big budget movies.

I'll be honest. With Fraser it would come off too goofy. I know the concept is goofy, but...I just don't see Fraser as that type of guy..he's TOO funny.

Shazam! works being goofy. Fraser's comedic chops would fit it like a glove.

It's supposed to be funny.

The only 2 comic book characters I ever felt Brendan Fraser resembled where Scott Summers/Cyclops and Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. I don't dislike the guy by any means, I enjoyed some of his films, but I just don't see him as Captain Marvel (just as I don't see Jim Caviezel as Hal Jordan, but that's a whole different topic).

Fraser isn't a spitting image of Cap but it could be close enough not to matter. He is square jawed, fairly wide, pretty tall and extremely fit.

What really helps Fraser is his acting skill. He's got the cred to make a great Cap.

I didn't realize Morale was in Mr. Deeds. I don't know if we need Frazer if the Rock is really playing Black Adam.

His performance as a mute beef cake in Dodgeball brought me to tears. And who can forget his role as "Big Cop" in the Terminator show?

Come on - his resume isn't extensive, its comprised of uttering a few yards and looking big and muscular.

Thats exactly the type of thinking that got Jessica Alba as Sue Storm. After Bale and Downey and Norton I want actors to play these heroes. Molale may be able to pull a Routh and come from no background and due a great job - but his entire fan base in built on his looks alone, which is stupid.

I'll be honest. With Fraser it would come off too goofy. I know the concept is goofy, but...I just don't see Fraser as that type of guy..he's TOO funny.

Fraser can play serious too - he was in Crash for crying out loud. I think Fraser has the charm to make CM the lovable, likable child in a big man's body the character needs. For those same reasons I would of had no problem with The Rock being cast.

I didn't realize Morale was in Mr. Deeds. I don't know if we need Frazer if the Rock is really playing Black Adam.

Do you think that many people really remember the scene in Scorpion King?

I don't know if we need Frazer if the Rock is really playing Black Adam.

Most films have multiple stars these stars.

That said Fraser is to good an actor with a great look which could fit Marvel to not be a good candidate for the role even if he wasn't a big star.

Being considered a good actor doesn't necessarily make him the right actor for the part. Sean Penn is considered a good actor, but he would never fit role of a comic book hero.

No, but their acting skills should be good enough for the role. A bad actor ruins every movie no matter what role they play.

Fraser has all the acting skills required for CM. He isn't that physically wrong for Marvel, either. With him we'd get both sides of the character while with Molale we'd get the look but without the acting to convince the audience he's the character. The entire movie is compromised unless the person who's playing Marvel can do a good job convincing the audience he's Marvel.

Sean Penn is considered a good actor, but he would never fit role of a comic book hero.

Depends on the character he'd be playing.

Penn would make a good Jason Blood.
