SHH Exclusive Outdoor Posters: First Look at the Spirit

Have you noticed that you and the other guy are the ONLY ONES here defending Miller's (lack of) vision?

Probably you'll also be the only ones at the movie theater, so Miller can crash and burn like he deserves.

...maybe you haven't checked the other threads. Most are digging the new stills, the billboards, and there are others who do like the leaked pictures as what they are. Also, there are actually more people who are coming to these boards stating how intriguing this film is looking. Sorry, my friend, but you and Mercurius are looking more and more like an island.:marv:

Other guy? The Names Noir. You best learn it really quick.

An island, me?

I'm more like a continent. Or two.

Of the big ones. :woot:

This is not Will Eisner's The Spirit. This is Frank Miller's The Stupid, at best.

haha yeah seriously. it doesn't make sense for will eisner to be mentioned; this almost looks more like "the spirit in sin city."

i'm still kinda mad that his suit is black, not blue.

And I'm still TOTALLY mad about what he turned the Octopus into.

Yeah, i think the biggest departure is the Octopus. I'm no 'Spirit' expert or anything, but even I knew that Frank injected too much of his own material into Octopus.

I suggest you wait until you see the teaser, at least, before making such bold statements as "it doesn't make sense for will eisner to be mentioned". If the film captures "the spirit" of the books, then Miller did his job, regardless of your dislike of a black outfit.

Frank "Ghostbuster" Miller. :oldrazz: :woot:

It is a big IF and it's not gonna happen, so stop defending this hack. Are you his cousin or somethin'?

You surely understand that it is not a question of a simple "dislike of the black outfit".

I suppose, taking myself as an example - if I may - it is rather a conscience of Miller cheapening the whole thing applying his common-places to a real icon from another author.

In this case, to make things even worse, this "author" is called Will Eisner.

Cheapening? Look, the only one being "cheap" here is you. You're being critical of the film simply because of some behind-the-scenes pictures, Sam Jackson's face shown, and different color of suit. It's just silly of you. You have not yet seen a scene of the actual film, nor heard any dialogue from the film, and you have not even yet read a script review. Where do you get off?

Ouch!

Well, the reverse could be the same, look: "you're being cheap defending this crap based on some behind-the-scenes pictures, Sam Jackson's face shown, and different color of suit. It's just silly of you. You have not yet seen a scene of the actual film, nor heard any dialogue from the film, and you have not even yet read a script review. Where do you get off?"

See? :oldrazz:

Be reasonable. It's possible to have two opinions on it. Mine is: Miller the filmmaker is making a hack job using Eisner's name without deserving it.

He wants to hammer his manias inside of it, creating a pastiche of what would've been The Spirit.

Oh, and, by the way, you forgot the machine guns in your list of my dislikes. And skinny-muscled Macht, nothing like the comic book Spirit. And the belt, and his ha-ham "shoes"? And Dolan, and Sarah Paulson's character (who's she after all? :woot:). Etc, etc. etc.

It's Miller all over it, playing the easy card "updating". Sure he is. :word:

I am reasonable. It is one thing to dislike a costume(or machine guns blah, blah) and quite another to diss the project overall just based on that. I wasn't too crazy about the X-Men costumes in the film, but the film did justice to the essence of the Stan Lee and Chris Claremont stories. So The Octupus is carrying big ol' machine guns, well, woop dee doo, the Green Goblin looked more like a power ranger than a goblin and the film was still loved by fans.

Macht's physique looks convincingly athletic. Denny Colt is not a bodybuilder.

Now, if Miller is putting certain little touches of his own, well hey, since I'm a Miller fan, him and Eisner combined is great. You're not a Miller fan, so here I think we can have a healthy, agreeable split.

We each are entitled to our opinions, but this is a discussion thread and so far I have found most of your arguments unconvincing and I feel like I should address them.

You make great efforts of imagination, sometimes. I'm a Miller fan, also (have all his graphic novels, his great Daredevil back in the ole days, etc).

But I won't take the bones he throws at me. :oldrazz:

Denny Colt was bulky. Macht is muscular, but skinny. Wrong casting.

Perhaps my arguments are not convicing. But perhaps you're not reading it accordingly. All I know is: I offered some arguments, and you usually answer with "I'm a Miller fan. I like all the changes he's done".

That's fine, respectable and all, but it's not an argument, as you know.

We can disagree in good spirit, of course.:woot:

Miller destroyed Robocop and Batman twice, what's going to stop him from destroying The Spirit?

I don't know about Robocop, but most Bat fans would say Miller's take on Batman is one of the most definitive takes of the character ever.

Get off your high horse. You're really making a fool of yourself.:oldrazz:

Suuuure. DK2 and ASBAR are goddamn definitive.

Definitive CRAP.

Sarah Paulson is Ellen Dolan, the commisioner's daughter. Don't you read the comics?:cwink:

Most people have DKR and BY1 on their mind when they think of Frank Miller and Batman. You know, the milestone stuff.

You mean, the only half-decent things he ever did in his entire life? Sure.

Long time ago, in England, there was a very nice writer, called Swift, that made the emblem of his work a certain figure well-known as irony.

Now, I know it was a loooooong time ago, but even so. :woot:

Anyway, Sarah Paulson can be anybody BUT Ellen Dolan. And that BECAUSE I read the books, smartypants. :oldrazz:
