Shia LaBeouf and Robert Redford have signed on to headline an adaptation of the Neil Gordon novel The Company You Keep. Redford is also attached to direct.

The novel (which is being adapted by Lem Dobbs (Dark City, The Limey, The Score), was first published in 2003 and is officially described as follows:

When Jason Sinai, one of the last Vietnam-era fugitives still wanted on murder charges for a robbery gone wrong in 1974, encounters a young newspaper reporter in search of a story, he must abandon years of safe underground life for the dangerous life of the road -- traveling across American and deep into his past. Set against the rise and fall of the radical anti-war group the Weather Underground, "The Company You Keep" is a sweeping American saga about sacrifice, the ecstatic righteousness of youth, and the tension between political ideals and family loyalties. It is a vidid re-creation of lives lived underground -- of battle-scarred veterans, ideologues, profiteers, criminals and bystanders.

Redford will play the part of Sinai (who also uses the alias James Grant) with LaBeouf appearing as the young, Albany-based reporter.

Though the novel is written through a series of fictional e-mails, it is currently unknown whether or not Redford will embrace a similarly high-concept filmic approach.

Not a fan of Redford but the story sounds great.

Brit Marling looks likely to join the cast of Robert Redford's adaptation of the Neil Gordon novel, The Company You Keep, Variety reports.

It is a vidid re-creation of lives lived underground -- of battle-scarred veterans, ideologues, profiteers, criminals and bystanders.

Marling is now in theaters in the just-released Another Earth and will soon headline Sound of My Voice, both of which she also co-wrote.

In addition to directing, Redford will play the part of Sinai (who also uses the alias James Grant) with Shia LaBeouf appearing as the young, Albany-based reporter.

Though the novel is written through a series of fictional e-mails, it is currently unknown whether or not Redford will embrace a similarly high-concept filmic approach.

Not surprisedly that Brit Marling is getting role offers after Another Earth's reception at Sundance, which by the way I seriously can't wait. Good to see she picked a role in what seems to be a good project.

Chris Cooper and Stanley Tucci has joined the cast.

Robert Redford will direct and stars alongside Shia LaBouef, Julie Christie, Susan Sarandon, Nick Nolte and Sundance breakout Brit Marling.

Tucci will play the reporter’s editor while Cooper plays the brother of Redford’s character who takes his niece under his wing when his brother goes underground to evade the FBI.

This looks pretty good and I might see it.I'm not a Robert Redford fan, though.

I'm selective on the Redford films I watch, but this sounds like a good story. It might be a bit premature, but this could also lead to an Oscar nomination.
