Finally got the DVD.
Man, I love this movie.
One of the 5 best movies of 2007 for me (Superbad, Hot Fuzz, Bourne Ultimatum and 300).

finally saw this movie a few days ago...too over-the-top for my tastes, but there were some really cool action sequences. i was first turned off when Clive's character shoved a carrot in a guy's mouth and through the back of his head (utterly impossible) and there were a lot of 'wtf' moments, but it was a decent action flick. i say decent because the cool action sequences balance out the corny acting, dialogue, and script.

well its meant to be over the top so that is why i like it.

i know it's meant to be over-the-top, but like i said....it was TOO over-the-top for my tastes. certain parts rubbed me the wrong way like Clive shooting the marry-go-round so it'll go faster while Giamati's character stupidly keeps trying to shoot the baby instead of taking care of Clive first.

i guess i should've totally turned my brain off before i watched the movie, but i can only suspend my disbelief but so much. still....like i said, most of the action sequences were cool.

It was a decent movie overall,non-stop action sequences. I can understand from last poster than some of the action was over the top,and I agree. Eventhough,it was supposed to be it did get real old fast after a bit. I like the non-stop action, but /shrug u can do a little too much and it gets repetitive, and mundain(sp) after awhile(aka live free or die hard).
Overall decent mindless candy movie that I could pop-in dvd here and there.

I ****in' love this movie. It's good to see a good old-fashioned, excessively violent action movie for a change.

Does anyone know the total body count?

too bad this movie was so bad at the box office...:csad:
deserved more...

the movie was only in theatres for like a week so i still havent seen it :/

Exactly 100, apparently.

Also, 15 gallons of fake blood were used, and Clive used a total of 18 guns in the film.

what's wrong with America when a movie like this doesn't do well at the box office...lol.

I love it. I've seen it twice so far

This was one of the corniest, dumbest movies I have ever seen. I know they were going for over the top but the dialogue was corny, the action was unrealistic, Monica Bellucci was horrible, and the plot was dumb. Clive Owen is about the only thing that saved this movie from total disaster.

5/10

^I put my hand over my head for people giving this a 10/10:csad: :o

The whole point of the film was to be corny, dumb, over the top and unrealistic...

...but just because it's all those things, doesn't make it a bad film. It was pure genuine fun.

There were a lot of cool sequences yes, like him tying the strings to the guns, him shooting holes in a wall to climb up, shooting a stairfull of guys while rappeling down, etc...But I tried to like this movie and it was neither edgy, fun, nor compelling. The continuing gag with the carrot was never explained other than he liked carrots:whatever: all the guys that shoot at him never hit him:whatever: the baby looked fake in all the actions sequences, the dialogue was cringe worthy, it had no depth, and the plot(a baby factory) was just stupid. This movie tried to hard to be different and fell short in a year of stylized action like 300 and Beowulf. I am a huge Clive Owen fan, I wanted him as James Bond, and he was the only part of this movie that made me keep watching it. I just cannot believe that most of the people who watched this gave it a 10/10:csad:

The carrot gag is a reference to Looney Toons, since this is meant to be the RAMBO/Die Hard one many army type of action film blended with a cartoonish style, plus it stems from carrots being good for your eye sight and your eye sight being good for shooting.

The plot is a crazy as hell version of Die Hard and tons of other action movies which don't have much more depth than this one does, the bad ass action movie plot is typically setting up an uber bad ass, putting innocents for them to have to proct in the middle, and having them fight there way through countless baddies along the way.
This film was not supposed to have depth (movies that are typically aren't labeled something like "Shoot 'Em Up"), and most of the films that it's referencing don't have much more.

Monica wasn't horrible at all, Clive emotes LESS than she does as even he would tell you...that was the point, he's a personification of the standard tough as nails, straight faced hero that never changes expression or breaks a sweat no matter what's happening.

OF COURSE the action was remarkably unrealistic, again, the film is referencing its genre, which is a deliberately unrealistic genre, this film is just more upfront about it and the less realistic an action film is, the more fun it is because anything can happen, the film is not bound by realism.
To complain about it being too over the top or too ridiculous is like going to a comedy and complaining because it's too funny or a horror movie and complaining because it's too scary.

The film is meant to reflect goofy as **** Asian action flicks, and every movie Stallone/Arnold/Bruce/Van Damme/Segal, etc... have ever made.
OF COURSE there's tons of absurd dialogue and the performances are absurd to the point where those that entirely missed the point deem them as "cringe worthy."

"But this is stupid and it makes no sense and why didn't the guy just do this?"

Asking questions like this misses the point, the film is directly and deliberately referencing films that make you ask that as an in joke.

well, it's like they say...to each his own.
but I'll still see the movie.

I loved this movie thought it was one of the top 10 films of 2007.

When i get paid tomorrow i'm gonna pick it up before i go to work.

I just love the action and the stuff that makes it the way it is.
