shooter on the va tech campus

why is everyone hating on the media?! they're doing thier jobs reporting news, no matter how you feel about it. you guys complain when the media covers BS like tom cruise and and wife and anna nichole's suicide and complain you want real news; well here it is. now stop itching about it.

They could have REPORTED on it. They didn't have to screen the tape. From the ads they posted on the website I'm surprised we didn't see kids heads exploding as part of the report. This whole thing has been packaged like an action movie in order to shock the nation into watching and simplify it down so dumbasses can boo the bad guy...It's sensationalist bull****

This is exactly what the killer wanted.

He got his unintelligible "Nicholas Cage" style tirade aired.

They keep saying "Well Virginia Police said it wouldn't hurt their investigation."

How about, don't air it because the killer shouldn't get what he wanted. :down

Even if the video and "manifesto" wasn't shown to the public, this guy would still be considered a "hero" to the sick, pathetic losers like him. Fact is, people have said they tried to reach out to him, he didn't want help, he wanted to wallow in his self-pity, woah is me attitude. Of course there will be others case like this, if he didn't do it, someone else would have. The blood isn't on anyone's hands but his own. Everyone saying they should have put the school on lockdown, the police had someone in custody, it would've been irresponsible to create a panic when you already have someone in custody. The earlier incident didn't suggest another, larger shooting would take place.

I really hate it when the bad guys win...:( Sadly, it seems to happpen too often in the "real world" :csad:

It doesn't matter if the first shootings didn't suggest another set, the school knew something had happened, the killer hadn't been caught, and they should have at the very least closed classes until further notice.

That's the point. They thought they did catch the killer. If they knew he was still at large, different actions probably would have been taken.

the front page of our paper is a picture of the ribbon with Hokie coloring, and nothing else but the names of the victims, and a brief sentence about each following.

Ross Abdallah Alameddine 20, of Saugus, Mass, and english major who friends say was "an intelligent, funny, easygoing guy"

Christopher James Bishop, 35, taught german and helped run an exchange program with a German University

Brian Bluhm 25, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. his research focused on water quality and he loved Pink Floyd

Ryan Clark, 22, of Martinez, GA., known as "Stack". A friend said "I don't think I ever saw him mad in the 5 years I knew him"

Austin Cloyd, 18, of Champaign, Ill., a freshman known for her thank-you notes. She started a program to rehabiliate homes.

Jocelyn Couture-Nowak, a french instructor, she worked passionately to spread the French language

Daniel Perex Cueva, 21, of Woodbridge, VA. An accomplished swimmer who also played tennis and ran cross-country

Kevin Grenata, 46, engineering science and mechanics professor. Known for his research on how body muscles work.

i'll post more in a minute

You want to see the saddest thing in the world...see thier facebook pages...they have become memorials and moments frozen in time from when they had no more cares other than finals and a summer job :csad: :csad:

As for the *****ebags at NBC...I'll bet they debated about the film: debated when the best time to put it on would be so they could get the best ratings...:cmad: The media (not all but A LOT) are such blood sucking leeches...

The head of the NBC news department was like we sat on it for most of the day.

Most of the day being, they recieved it at 11:00 am and aired it at 6:30 pm just in time for the evening news.

And I know all the news companies would have done it for ratings.

Still it's sickening.

the real evil force that won here is Collective Soul, they hadn't gotten airplay in like a decade, and now, all sorts of Pscychos will be downloading and listening to this like the new generations Helter Skelter.

Its just lame seeing the exploitive media play into his hands just as he planned it.

Theyre such predictable tools.

200 dead in bagdad yesterday.... but no one cares about that story, let's release Cho's video footage to continue to pull in viewers and drag this story out.

This is exactly what the killer wanted.

He got his unintelligible "Nicholas Cage" style tirade aired.

Just because it's what he wanted doesn't mean it shouldn't be shown.

In all actuality, I think it's good that the videos are being shown because it gives us more insight as to what Cho was actually like... Dulling our need for the answer to the question, "Why did he do it?"

Not that they did this specifically to soothe America, but you get the picture.

Cho's gone, what he wants doesn't matter anymore. There's no "win" here... The guy's dead.

One point I do agree on is that the media should at least dedicate a good chunk of time to the victims. However- they are still doing their job correctly either way, whether or not it's what we think they should do.

Chos gone but he will live on in history now. He'll prolly be more remembered that the individual victims.

"Thanks to you, I die like Jesus Christ, to inspire generations of the weak and the defenseless people."

This is probably what worries me most about the videos.

"Thanks to you, I die like Jesus Christ, to inspire generations of copycat killers."

Hell, if a school shooting happens at one of the schools in my area... My college is split into four campuses in different towns, and if one of them is attacked, we're screwed. Each one is smaller than a high school campus, and the high schools here are fairly small.

Also, if the high schools get attacked. There's people in my old school who are known for "worshipping" this kind of thing, and I could very well see them doing it.

Although, I don't believe any of them actually will, I still hope that nobody crosses that line... Where I live, or anywhere else.

*Edit*

All these happened yesterday... The copycats have already gone into work:

Each a separate threat of bombings or school shootings, many of which actually referring to Virginia Tech.

That's not a good sign.

LOL! Dude, what a random band and song.

The people can change the channel or turn the TV off if they don't like it. MSNBC has said they will only devote 10% of their airtime to the video etc. Its not just the television channels, the audience plays just a vital role in gobbling this tripe up. Last week it was Don Imus with the most coverage of the year, just beating out Anna Nicole's death by 2% in total time on the air. And its only a small minority of people that watch the networks and 24 hour news channels compared to the 300 million plus people in your country. Somewhere along the way something happened to them to be more interested in Cho or Anna Nicole's death or than the environment or Iraq or Iran.

man, what an idiot seriously. and everyone is like "he got what he wanted"
he's DEAD! he didn't get ****, whereever he is, I doubt he's enjoying anything.
don't make him into some kind of monster of any importance when he is just some mental kid with a Neo fetish.

"you did this to me Morpheus....woah!" :cmad:

^He planned on killing himself. That's what he wanted. There is no, "he got what he deserved, or "he took the cowards way out." He knew what he was going to do, and how it would play out at the end.

yeah, If I planned to lick a lightsocket and die and succeeded I wouldn't be any less of an idiot that if it was accidental.

I’m in India and this has affected folks over here as well , two of the victims were from India

prof G V Loganathan was like the main bread earner for his family that lives in rural India they left for the United States the government had announced that it would bear the bill for the family's travel.

Minal Panchal, hailing from Mumbai, was a first year student in the university and the second Indian to be killed in the rampage. The 26-year-old Virginia Tech student had already chalked out her immediate plans; she wanted to work with a top architecture firm in Washington D C during the summer break. Minal's family — her mother, New Jersey-based sister Kavita Suratkal and Kavita's husband — came down to Virginia on Tuesday.

Its affected the country on the whole cause a lot of Indians that can afford it shift base to America for better education/ exposure to international standards out there. All in search for the American dream

I have to ask myself is this the American dream? where a psycho like the asslole can just walk in and buy a gun deciding who lives and dies. for me America is at war with itself lets focus on the wmd in our own backyards Lets go after the people behind the curtain selling guns to lunatics Before its too late

The name of one victim was not immediately available.

I just found another victim his name is Waleed Mohamed Shaalan,
here's the link:
http://edition.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/virginiatech.shootings/victims/profiles/waleed.shaalan.html

bumping the names...the age/origin diversity in the victims is large. He sure didn't pick and choose his victims and didn't care if he shot just students but also killed a few professors.
